After three seasons, ABC Family’s Kyle XY TV show is coming to an end. Will viewers get answers to the ongoing storylines about the young man without a belly button?
Kyle XY centers around a young man (Matt Dallas) who wakes up in the middle of a Seattle forest — naked and without a memory. The police call in psychologist Nicole Trager (Marguerite MacIntyre) for assistance and she ends up bringing him home. Her husband Stephen (Bruce Thomas), daughter Lori (April Matson), and son Josh (Jean-Luc Bilodeau) almost immediately take to “Kyle” and make him feel like part of the family. He begins to show incredible intelligence and physical abilities that lead the Tragers to realize there’s far more to Kyle than meets the eye. Others in the series include Chris Olivero, Kirsten Prout, Jaimie Alexander, Nicholas Lea, Chelan Simmons, Magda Apanowicz, Martin Cummins, Leah Cairns, J. Eddie Peck, Teryl Rothery, Conrad Coates, Cory Monteith, Josh Zuckerman, Kurt Max Runte, and Malcolm Stewart.
The show premiered on June 26, 2006 on ABC Family and became an instant hit. It attracted 2.6 million viewers and became the cable network’s highest-rated show to date. The pilot was repeated on ABC and over 5.2 million people watched. The first season was made up of 10 episodes and the show was quickly renewed for a second year.
Kyle continued to enjoy very healthy ratings into the second season. They were so good that ABC Family ended up ordering 23 episodes, a longer season than most series on the major networks. In May 2007, ABC Family president Paul Lee proudly said, “Kyle XY is the highest-rated show ever on ABC Family; it is truly the show that has defined this network.”

Unfortunately, that sunny outlook didn’t continue for very long once the ratings started to fall in the latter part of season two. Kyle’s third season’s premiere episode attracted just 1.5 million viewers and other ABC Family shows outperformed it by a wide margin.
ABC Family has just announced the renewal of two shows — Greek and Lincoln Heights — as well as the cancellation of Kyle. No details were given for the cancellation but the decline in ratings, higher production costs, and castmember contracts coming up for renewal are all believed to be contributing factors.
The third season of Kyle kicked off on January 12th and is expected to conclude on March 16th. It seems likely that the network will continue to air all of the episodes on schedule.
Because the series finale was shot well before the cancellation news came down, it seems unlikely that all of the show’s ongoing storylines will be resolved when the last episode airs. Will fans get the answers they’re looking for or will they be left hanging forever?

This is complete utter ********, they ended it without any closure! ABC family sucks, I’m not watching any of their other crap.
How insulting can you get? At least have the decency to present a series end webisode or something where the loose ends are tied.
Perhaps it wasn’t the highest rated show — no stupid tricks or tons of angst like other shows, but at least people over the age of 18 could watch this show and enjoy it.
But it really futile to complain. Garbage continues to reign supreme on TV.
that was the worse finale ever don’t cancel it oh wait to late. I hate u that was the only good show on ABC now I’m watching supernatural and the reaper.
YOU SUCK!!!
from, A true KYLEY XY fan!
Im from everett and i’ve watched kyle xy since the show started and i’m not to happy how it ended I still have lots of questions and would love to see more I love the story and its a mistake to end the show this way its just not right.
this show was the best show ever! it should have never ended there are still too many questions out there that need to be answered.
you can not have a show on as good as this and get all the viewers interested just to leave us hanging and tell us the show is history. how in the heck do you expect to get ratings when you upset all the viewers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your Crazy 2 cancell Kyle XY especially with a terrible cliff hanger where Cassidy tells Kyle he’s his brother i mean what the hell!!! Plus i want to see if Kyle and Jessi finally get together!!!
I cant believe that they canceled Kyle XY. it is one of my top tv shows that i watch and i watch at least 25 different tv shows that are good. the ending sucked!! what the f#ck i dont get it. ‘my mother is your mother. im your brother!!!” how is that an ending!!! i hated it! i mean i loved the episode! but the ending was bad i wanted it to have more. other wise the episode was really good. sorry im just really mad!
It is completely INSANE to cancel Kyle XY! And then keep shows like The Secret Life of an American Teenager! Kyle put ABC Family on the charts to begin with. They really should have rethought the cancellation. At least make a movie or something to finish it off and not leave with all of the questions unanswered!
OMG you can’t just end KYLE XY!!!! you can’t end a seaon with, ” i’m your brother”, or a cliffhanger like, “LATNOK IS PLAING GOD”. you just can’t i rly hope they reconcider this!!!
I agree, It almost seems that the networks are not thinking of viewers, they are thinking only of their bottom lines.
Well, Let’s hope that all of this makes them think of us the viewer.
The show got a bad time slot. Heroes on NBC is at the exact same time as Kyle XY’s third season. Heroes is a high roller for ratings on NBC. Kyle XY STILL IS a high roller for ratings on ABC FAMILY.
Don’t cancel the show with a cliffhanger like “LATNOK IS PLAYING GOD”
KYLE XY SHOULD CONTINUE
I’m from the philippines and I watch this show since it started. ABC Family is making a big mistake. I love the story, the characters everything except for ABC Family they suck!
i agree The Secret Life of the American Teenager should be canceled. it sucks and it doesnt even make sense, and da girl doesnt even know how to act. Kyle XY should keep going it is a great show. i love it and i will miss it alot i hope they reconsider this.
i dont think its da best show dey got on right now.
I just sent in A Lot of letters to ABC – family telling them the huge disappointment that I have in their network for punishing Kyle XY for the writer’s strike and the rediculous long wait between seasons, the subsequent long wait for the release of the season 2 dvd, and the apparent lack of promotion. This show put ABC family on the map and now they are throwing it away like yesterday’s garbage. There is no way that I can give any of their new shows a chance when they may suffer the same fate as Kyle XY. I… Read more »
