Tim Allen’s second long-running ABC sitcom has come to a close. His Last Man Standing TV show has been cancelled so there won’t be a seventh season on ABC. The ABC family sitcom follows straight-talker Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), a man surrounded by women.
Last Man Standing also stars Nancy Travis, Molly Ephraim, Kaitlyn Dever, Amanda Fuller, Jordan Masterson, Flynn Morrison, Jonathan Adams, Christoph Sanders, and Hector Elizondo.
Last Man Standing: A Look at the Ratings
The sixth season of Last Man Standing averaged a 1.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.41 million viewers. Compared to the fifth season, that’s down by 5% in both measures.
Although when sorted by ratings demo numbers Last Man Standing ranks 12th among the 25 scripted ABC TV shows we’re tracking, in terms of average total audience size it’s a top three show. That’s pretty good for Friday nights, when the audience is smaller.
In addition to performing solidly for ABC, Last Man Standing does well in syndication.
Unfortunately, ABC does not share in those syndication profits since the series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. In the past, the network had negotiated with the studio to secure lower licensing fees. This time around, there was no last-minute bargaining.
There’s been no news of trying to shop the series elsewhere but, if the studio and creatives are willing to make the jump, Last Man Standing seems like a natural candidate to move to a streaming or cable outlet.

I am very disappointed with the canceling of Last Man Standing. This is the only show I look forward to every week.

Really? You cancel a show that is funny and not derogatory but keep shows that are. Wrong move ABC.
I am so very disappointed that the show has been cancelled. When I see some of the “JUNK” that is renewed it boggles my mind. This show is funny and very entertaining. It would be great to see another network pick up Last Man Standing. Until then, when and if that happens, I will continue to watch reruns. They are far more entertaining then the new Jenna Elfman show which I think is a joke or some of the others chosen year after year for renewal. This is outrageous! Can’t have a decent, clean, funny TV show anymore, can we? It’s all about pushing boundaries of vulgarity! Well, I LIKE the good clean humor of Last Man Standing! I hope another network has the good sense to pick up the rights!
So Fox renews Last Man on Earth, with 2.1 million viewers on a Sunday night, while ABC cancels Last Man Standing, which has 6.4 million viewers on a Friday night and ranks 12th for the network?? WTH??? I’m not comparing the two shows, only their popularity. I have to agree with many others here, that Allen’s political views clearly offend Disney Megacorp. Too bad. This was a great family show, even better than Home Improvement, and I will watch Allen in anything he does next. I hope he finds another show, and soon. This is one of the best shows on TV, A GOOD FAMILY SHOW WITH A LOT OF Situational comedy. Being top three in its category, shame on you for cancelling a great show, and keeping stupid shows. It was one of the only shows on ABC that I watched. I guess I’m done with ABC.

What I love most about LMS is that it pokes fun equally at all political views, AND gives props to any side when it’s warranted. Family show, reveals foibles and weaknesses, but also redemption for past (and current) errors. And it’s just FUNNY.

So I will no longer watch ABC! There is so little to watch on TV–Last Man Standing was one of a few shows I watched! And yet, The View with its unhappy, rude, bitter, hateful panel members continues! My time is too valuable to waste on such garbage! Back to Hallmark full time! Will be purchasing LMS videos!!!
ABC IS MAKING A BIG MISTAKE BY CANCELLING LAST MAN STANDING. NOT ONLY IS IT THE BEST SITCOM ON TV, IT IS NUMBER ONE IN ITS TIME SLOT ON FRIDAY NIGHT. IT APPEALS NOT ONLT TO SENIORS, BUT TO PEOPLE AGES 24 THRU 35, THE AGES OF MY SONS. ABC SHOULD RECONSIDER THE DECISION MAKERS AT THEIR NETWORK.
By far one of the best shows on TV. If the show remains cancelled , sad to say, just another station that I will no longer watch. I hope the sponsors are listening.
It’s a great family show. I watch the past seasons on Netflix and Hulu all the time. I think ABC is making a stupid decision, but they don’t care about pleasing an audience. It’s all about the money. Sad. I’m going to miss it.
