Law & Order: SVU is returning to NBC for its 18th season, but those involved with the series were prepared for the axe to fall on the series.
That did not happen. NBC renewed the series.
The man in charge of the series, Warren Leight, did have plans for the Law & Order: SVU finale if it happened this year though, and that plan included asking Chris Meloni and other departed cast members to return to the series.
Meloni left the series after the end of season 12 after a heated negotiation. Leight said the following about Meloni’s exit from the series, according to the Hollywood Reporter:
“In hindsight, NBC, Dick, Universal and Chris all know they could have handled that better, but I think Chris, over time from what I hear, began to realize that the fans were owed a little more…. It was a negotiation handled without much empathy on any of the participant’s parts and I think they all sort of know that now. And there wasn’t much empathy for the fans either. I think everyone probably learned, but you can’t roll the clock back.”
For now, fans of Law & Order: SVU have to wait for Stabler’s return for at least one more season. Do you want to see Chris Meloni back on this series? Tell us what you think.

Yes, yes, yes! We definitely want Chris Meloni back. What an awesome team he made with Benson. Please bring him back, but not for a finale just for continuing shows!
Yes having Chris Meloni back would be great. He is missed by so many people and as with others leaving the show, it just isn’t the same, and takes time to get used to new people. But it certainly will be so good to have him back and please don’t cancel the show. I have been watching since day one and also the original Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. They are too good to cancel. The actors are great , the stories really good. Keep ’em coming.
Absolutely, want Chris to return. It hasn’the been the same since he left the show. There was a certain synergy with Chris there and that quality was definitely gone after Stabler departure.

Asking Chris Meloni and other departed cast members to return to the series and Elliot Stabler’s return for at least one more season? Sounds like season 18 is going to be the final season to me.
I would LOVE to see Chris Meloni return to the show. I loved it when he and Marissa were partners as Stabler and Benson. I still love the show and hope it NEVER comes to an end. I know that Marissa Hartigay is really enjoying being in the producers chair. And she’s very good at what she does. Love Munch and the rest of the crew. Yes, I would like Chris Meloni to return. I only watched it once in a while since he left, and stopped watching it altogether when Dan Florek left.
Also, I am a big fan of Adam Beach and he exited the series abruptly
too. It would be great to bring him back too!

from what i understand between “Wolf & Meloni’, Meloni wanted more money , Wolf told him what bout the others you work with , , heck….. I have only cared for L&O and L&O Criminal Intent. I have never liked SVU, mainly because of the stars.
While I watch SVU, my fave has always been Criminal Intent. I REALLY miss Goren & Eames. I don’t like the way they ended the show either.
