At first, FOX seemed very cautious about the future of Lethal Weapon. The season one order was upped from 13 to 18 episodes and it was proclaimed a “full season”. Still, the Lethal Weapon TV show ended up doing very well for the network. Ratings-wise, its first season was a top-three scripted series, during the FOX 2016-17 television season. Can it retain or even build upon its audience in its second season on a new night? Will Lethal Weapon be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A TV adaption of the successful feature film franchise, Lethal Weapon stars Damon Wayans, Clayne Crawford, Keesha Sharp, Kevin Rahm, Jordana Brewster, Johnathan Fernandez, Dante Brown, Chandler Kinney, and Michelle Mitchenor. The comedic FOX buddy cop drama centers on two very different cops working together on the streets of Los Angeles. While family man Roger Murtaugh (Wayans) has everything to live for, is there nothing Martin Riggs (Crawford) won’t sacrifice to avenge the loss of his family? In season two, Murtaugh tries to support Riggs, while still keeping his own family in mind and trying to avoid the chaos his partner seems to seek.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/9 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The first season of Lethal Weapon on FOX averaged a 1.57 rating in the 18-49 year old viewer demographic and a total audience of 6.536 million viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Lethal Weapon TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a third season on FOX?
*5/13/18 update: FOX has renewed Lethal Weapon for a third season but Clayne Crawford has been replaced. Details here.
I’m so upset. Clearly behind too… I went to watch the show last night and see Riggs was killed off??!!! WHAT?!? Yeah… won’t be watching now. I loved the show most because of him! Sad you killed him off. And from what I’m reading… WRONG. SHAME ON YOU.
This show has become 50% stupid and 50% farce. It’s as though the writers are *trying* to get it cancelled. Murtaugh driving a bus, and in a pursuit no less. Seriously? The writers are abusing the legalization, big time. The first season started out well enough. But Riggs’ issues have dragged on and on and are dragging the series down with it. Before the end of it, there was handwriting on the wall. Murtaugh is a Keystone cop in this, CONSTANTLY saying and doing absolutely stupid, moronic things that don’t bear even a passing resemblance to police work. Not to… Read more »
Leave the cast alone, the chemistry on screen between them is excellent. Suck it up and please the viewers for one. He is Riggs and portrayed brilliantly and someone else taking over would not be the same and you would looser views.
i think your making a bad move i like the old riggs even though i like scott in movies want get my attention bring the old riggs back leave it alone big fan will not watch if you dont
Fully support Clayne Crawford – his portrayal of Riggs was spot on – spirited, passionate, a little crazy – maybe…but must agree with others who have said that he clearly pays homage to Mel Gibson in his rendition of Riggs on the small screen. As far as I am concerned – if the scene at the end of last season is “real” – the show is officially over for me if Clayne Crawford is no longer a part of it. Crawford (as Riggs) was the only reason to watch. In my opinion, the smarter story line choice would be to… Read more »
well said
I support team Riggs!!! He is the main character of this show!! No Clayne as Riggs….no show! This replacement will cost!
I hope there will be a third season and many more…The show has the potentials
I look forward to watching this show every week. Crawford is brilliant in his performance of Riggs replacing Mel Gibson’s insanity. His role was to be toxic. He went above and beyond the call of duty. Waynans needs to keep his objections prioritized knowing that Crawford is making Waynans character famous also. Being disciplined enough to stand by and allow creativity to develop success is the true character of a “Smart Worker”.
Clayne Crawford is the main character in Lethal Weapon. He is the show. Sad things are the way they are. Hate to see him leave.
I love this show riggs needs to live and remain in the show I feel he is the defining character and will not continue the series of they kill riggs off it was great while it lasted.
Riggs?? We love this show and disappointed no more Riggs. Don’t think the replacement will be as good. Not first time Fox has ruined a series.
I agree!
I was looking forward to season 3 but with no Riggs Or replacing Clayton as Riggs ? Could you guys compromise ? I really can’t comprehend a new Riggs. Was sorry to learn the chemistry between Riggs and Murtaugh was totally acting.
My thoughts exactly.
I just watched the last episode and I’m so very disappointed. Riggs, my favorite TV character dies? How can you do that????? I really enjoyed this show so much. Please bring him back to life. Please, please.
My wife and I look forward to this show every week. We really hope that it will be back next season — even though it appears that Riggs was “killed off” at the end of this season. But I don’t think it will be a big challenge to bring him back, give the skill of your writers. Please bring the series back next season.
We looked forward to this show every week. Please keep it!
