The magic is gone, at least for now. TNT has cancelled The Librarians TV show after four seasons. On Twitter, executive producer Dean Devlin confirmed that he had just received a call confirming the cancellation. However, a glimmer of hope remains. Devlin said he will, “…immediately begin the process of trying to move the show elsewhere,” and asked fans to keep their fingers crossed.
A TNT fantasy-adventure drama, The Librarians stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette, with Noah Wyle recurring as veteran librarian, Flynn Carsen. Like the film franchise, the TV series centers on the ancient organization dedicated to safeguarding an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. The librarians serve as the protectors of the world’s mystical treasures.

The Librarians: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Librarians averaged a 0.29 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.45 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 38% and 20%, respectively. From that perspective, the cancellation makes sense.
Among the eight first-run scripted TNT TV shows we’re currently tracking, The Librarians ranks fourth in terms of its demo ratings average and drops to fifth in terms of average total audience. Running in the middle of the pack after four seasons is still respectable. However, in the last year or so, TNT has been repositioning itself as the home of edgy, grittier drama. The Turner-owned cable network even cancelled Major Crimes this year — its number one show. Like that procedural, it seems like The Librarians is as much a victim of the cable net’s new image, as of Nielsen households.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Librarians TV series? Shoul it have been cancelled or renewed for season five on TNT? Sound off, in the comments.
Probably one of the worst shows on tv..should have been cancelled before this. Bad scripts bad acting a real mess. Love Christian Kane but this show did nothing to show how talented he is, hopefully he’ll get another show as the lead. This one was just a pay check foe him
I won’t give you a down vote, but I will say this. This show is much better than the absolute GARBAGE that SYFY puts out that gets absolute GARBAGE RATINGS. SYFY should be required to pick this show up in order to stay on the air. TNT made a very stupid decision. Was Noah Wylie’s leaving that big a deal? Wylie’s show could be over after one season also. Why he left this to do that(except for the money) id beyond me.
This show is nothing but a ripoff of Warehouse 13, so goodbye.
The reverse actually .. Warehouse 13 was a rip off of the Librarians. The series was a continuation of the movie trilogy of the same name (also staring Wyle) which came out 2004-8, well before warehouse 13.
Actually warehouse 13 was a rip-off of Friday the 13th the series. It was a long time ago so you can be forgiven
I will … voted DOWN!
Really like this show, it’s a little campy, but I don’t want the docudrama and seriousness all the time. I need fun and laughs and fantasy too.. Hope mr. Devlin succeeds in finding “The Librarians,” a new home, I sure would watch… Try Hulu!
The Librarians has become yet another victim of Kevin Reilly destroying a network. He worked at NBC. None of the shows from his era have survived. He worked at FOX. Only three of the shows from his era are still around. One is on its last legs and the other two … he barely greenlit them before leaving the network. Now he’s doing the same to TNT. The only reason The Librarians isn’t being renewed is because it’s not part of this new edgier brand. In fact, I was surprised we got the fourth season at all. Really hope Dean… Read more »
50 million thumbs up to you. The only line Reilly’s new direction is going is DOWN! I really hope this man runs TNT into the ground and they get everything coming to them they should. Then I hope when they fire him (or he runs out like he did after destroying Fox), that he takes David Levy with him for being stupid enough to hire a man who destroyed EVERY network someone gave him the authority to run. While I didn’t watch The Librarians, my love was Major Crimes, so I really feel bad for all The Librarian fans.
I haven’t been on line for 4 days. I was shocked to find out. You are right about Reilly. Samantha Bee is keeping him from being FIRED, which he should be. This show has better ratings than practically everything(if not everything) on SYFY. SYFY should be forced to pick up this show. Is Noah Wylie leaving to probably do a 1 season show that big a deal? This is a disastrous decision and I hope someone picks it up. I said there was no way TNT would be stupid enough to cancel this show, and I was wrong.
Thank you … I hate this new direction he’s taking the network in. “Edgier” tv when one show for that roster debut to low ratings and was cancelled, another is on its last legs. TNT isn’t HBO, it isn’t Showtime, and hell it isn’t even close to the creative edge of FX .. It was doing great in its programming with Major Crimes, The Last Ship, and rizolle and Isles. Huge fanbase and top ratings for the network . Who the heck ends shows that still draw in viewers of their size?
I love this show! You know 18 to 49 year olds aren’t the only ones watching television. In fact I bet the over 50 crowd (of which I’m one) watches a fair amount of television!
Agree with you Jayne–they seem to forget that there are a lot of us older folks at home watching a lot of TV. They need to gear some show for us!
Yup, I agree with you…being 25 years past 50, I love it. It is a fun break from serious or ‘edgy’ programs. It would be nice to see it on another channel….please…
We’re in that 18-49 group and love this show… it was a fun adventure to watch with our teenager! Not everything needs to be edgy or gory. I miss TV that can be enjoyed by most of the family… not a lot of good options anymore.
WE loved this show, it was good family entertainment, something thats hard to find on prime time these days!!
I loved the show. Seems like the last few years if it’s doesn’t have foul language and sex it won’t survive.
There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that the series could’ve outpointed everything else on the network and they still would have cancelled it. THE LIBRARIANS had the temerity to have been created under the former administration, so it had a target on its forehead–much like the Republican party and anything created under Obama. I know it rarely happens, but let’s hope that Dean Devlin can find another buyer for this great series. Meantime, I can again forget what number TNT occupies on my cable system.
If it was created by Obama it should be cancelled
Actually, if it was created by Obama, it would still be on. NBC cucks up to Obama like I suck up to a good Chocolate Malted. NBC loves Obama. If it was created by Obama, it would be the one thing that he did that was good.
Obama doesn’t have the intelligence to create a show like this. He is supposedly going to produce a bunch of shows on NETFLIX, which is why I will never join Netflix. I hope someone else picks it up.
TNT you just made a HUGE mistake in not having the Liberians come back for more seasons. It’s the ONLY decent thing worth watching on your station.
This show is fun and can be enjoyed as a family show, which we lack so much of anymore.
Unless this comes back to TNT, you just lost a viewer on your channel.
Way to go idiots !!!!
The Librarians performs better than half of TNT’s other shows and they cancel it? What a bunch of idiots. They must really hate sci-fi and fantasy and love cop shows.
Um Yeah, you do know that they have no cop shows on there and cancelled all…yes? Maybe double check BEFORE posting comments. It was cancelled due to Kevin Reilly’s failing new direction.
Sorry, I don’t mean cop shows, I mean any and every show that has to do with “crime”. They’re all boring, “edgy” (as you put it) crap.
I’m pretty sure that this show had better ratings than ANYTHING on SYFY This was a stupid decision, and I hope it gets Reilly fired.
I love that show. I can watch it with my family without any concerns. I truly hope it gets picked up by another network. Hopefully the CW. They have good shows!
Really enjoyed the show! I truly hope + pray that it finds a home elsewhere, so we can continue to enjoy it! Still mad on losing Major Crimes, the best show on tv!
Mad about Major Crimes too!
Sorry to hear The Librarians is cancelled. I enjoy the show, and hope it finds a home elsewhere. If there is a petition to keep it on the air; I will gladly sign.
I second Kyle’s comment. I really like the librarians. VERY disappointing to hear it’s been canceled!
Enjoyed the show! Always looked forward to the next episode. TNT kept changing the scheduling – causing the lack of followers.
That’s too bad. I loved the show and the movies that preceded it. Now there is nothing for me to watch on TNT. I’m not really into The Alienist or any of the remaining shows they air,
Sorry to see it go. Enjoyed the movies & the series. Good writing & solid performances.
