Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

Yes lie to me should have been renewed for a fourth season and i think they should bring it back
They could have at least ended it with an open ending. like Loker being more like Cal, and that new guy that Ria found, getting hired. and Gillian and Cal getting together. i mean, the last episode was not even a cliffhanger. its just another episode. maybe just one more season for old time’s sake?
It would have been fine to cancel on a fourth season after they cleaned up all of the characters back stories. Just felt so unfinished. So much untapped potential.
If I had the power to change the fact that it has been canceled I would change it 🙁
It ended because it showed a mirror to society. More importantly to the administration and past administrations. That or ppl were to stupid to understand or disturbed.
I completely agree with you Mr. Ted. In a time where technology is out there to help “whatever” get across the globe, it is confined to specific material. Only what makes the public more ignorant it what should be viewed.
And the simple fact that actual pictures, videos, of real life individuals were used, goes to show how talented its producers were and the amount of knowledge “We The People” could ascertain; but then I suppose that would be a “threat” to National Security.
It’s an honor of being a fan of this Tv Series. For what it’s worth I profoundly think there should be a fourth season, It’s not a request but a recommendation
Are you kidding me was one of the most beautiful tv serials like lam watched by about 3 times before every season head the queue was a serial captivate you. You think there is a chance to start season 4. I mean really now how the hell to quit was a superb show
Lie to me was awesome. I wish they would bring it back… and that’s the truth.
I CANT BELIEVE IT ENDED! This is one of my favorite shows, and should not have been canceled!
I absolutely LOVED this show!! I was so sad it was canceled, especially since Cal finally admitted he loved Gillian. That’s what I was waiting for the entire time!! FOX screwed up this time.
One of the most “intelligent TV shows” I have watched.
I can’t believe it was cancelled!
Bring this show back! It´s awesome. Intelligent. Smart. Brilliant. And the team is great.
PLEASEEEE BRING IT BACK, lie to me is one of my favorite shows. I’ve learned a lot from it, and it’s the only show that make me smile and learn. YOU CANT END THE SHOW LIKE THAT.
Bring it back I love it sooo it’s like a better version of house
The show was okay for a while, but I got tired of it very quickly.
Every episode consisted of Tim Roth staring someone down with the same head-cocked silly look.
Also his female sidekick drove me batty. Boring.
