Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

It is great!
I can not wait until it starts again!! The show is provocative, and intriguing and it makes the audience use their senses and intuition just like the characters. I love it bring it back!
Love the show…….keep keep keep
I would love to see Fox show Lie To Me on a different night, than put it on hiatus till spring. I love this program and hope it will be on the fall schedule.
My husband and I love this show! It’s the only show that we BOTH can’t wait to watch! Please keep it going! We’ll watch till its done!
I l0ve this show…. I just wonder if my ratings get counted because I watch it online. I hope so because Lie to Me rocks!
Definitely a great show. I want them to continue it. I like learning something as I watch. This is the only show I follow. I miss it.
This is a fabulous, original, entertaining show. It should be moved to another night – not just removed from the schedule….
Please bring Lie to Me back!! A different day and time is fine, just don’t ignor this talanted show. Give it the respect it deserves.
keep lie to me on in my opinon it is the best show out there
Lie To Me is an intelligent show with intelligent characters, and real science. Therefore, the average dullard American cannot relate. I love Lie To Me because I actually have a working brain, and an IQ above 132. But for Joe six-pack that only wants to see sex and violence, it does not bode well for Lie to Me.
This show is sooo Entertaining, it Brings a whole new light on Investigatory(?) work. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show, as with House, Bones. The other rubbish American Idol, Glee, 24 is so-so You gotta keep this series on. Quit wetting out tongues and taking the water away. Excellent Programs should stay On. I Love Fox’s Programs PLEASE Do Not Dismiss your Audience by taking this show off. Thanks for Great Entertainment
Next to “Prison Break” this is the best show that FOX has ever come out with. Leave it on and on and on.
I really enjoy this show so do my kids and we never missed an episode until now. I do not watch house or 24 and I do not think these shows are as exciting and enjoyable to watch as Lie To Me. Please Put it back on because me and my kids miss the show.
LIE TO ME IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
