Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I LOVE Lie To Me! It’s my favorite show!!! I sure hope Fox brings it back. It is SO much better than most of the other crap that is on.
Love Love Love the show… Would truly miss if wasn’t there… please dont cancel
Absolutely one of my husband and my favorite shows. We would be very disappointed if it were cancelled.
Lie To Me is intelligent and well written. The cast have an excellent repore with each other, and the stories are believable. Finally, there are shows that aren’t “reality”, that are well constructed and entertaining. Please remember some people may be recording this show, making the survey count off. I think Fox would do better by promoting this venue of show than to pass it over and put soap water shows on TV.
My daughter and I watch very few shows that are current, and all of our viewing is online as we can watch at our leisure that way…besides, we don’t own a TV. Lie to Me is one of maybe three shows that we stream every week. We have been very upset by its absence the past few weeks. Whatever happened to having a show run from September to May, then summer reruns? This half season crap is very upsetting when we have shows that we really love to watch. As for the crap shows (if I even hear the word… Read more »
I like the originality of lie to me. The concept is cool, the writers are great. I make sure to record every episode, and right now I am behind. However, I almost didn’t want to watch if I new it had been cancelled. Glad to see that it will come back this spring. It beats the hell out of the same hum drum reality nonsense that is filling the airwaves.
I love this show! I watch it on TV and on the internet whenever possible. Very compelling premise, stories, and characters. Please get it back on the air asap! thanks.
Lie to Me is one of the rare shows on t.v. that is intellligently written with well thought out plots. Fox should just change the time slot, House is popular at 8, why not find an 8 spot for Lie to Me. No offense to American Idol, but really that show can be one night a week instead forcing so many good shows to be placed on hiatus.
Found the show to be very interesting and educational. the characters are believeable and the story lines are good. Please keep this one on the air.
I LOVE this show! This show has actually helped me detect lies! It really works! I can’t wait for the rest of the shows!
LOVE This show — my kids are enthralled by it and we are so bummed it’s not on right now…..please bring it back asap!
I enjoyed every show. Great cast. Gret story lines, and I LOVE learning all the body language to indicate lies 🙂
You know, not every solid show gets excellent rating out of the box. Sometimes people have to find the show.
And, not every show needs to start its seaason in January. Some of my cable fav’s are summer shows.
I’m thrilled to know FOX ordered nine additional shows. A spring start is not to my immediate liking, but the show is worth the wait.
This program is great. ” Lie to Me” is the only show that my husband and I record and look forward to watching. It is unique and so much better than all the other crime shows that have become boring.
Lie to me has to come back. I don’t care what day it’s on, I just want it to come back. All of the good shows have been getting bad news. Like Pushing Daisies, that show was BRILLIANT! Please don’t cancel Lie to me!
This is a truly unique show. Great cast, great stories. I love it! Please don’t cancel it!
THIS SHOW IS A MUST… Please bring Lie to Me back!!!! What about reruns?
