Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I LOVE Lie to Me. I’ve been regularly checking Hulu since the start of the new year and was disappointed to learn that it’s on hiatus. I intend to be a faithful viewer until the day of it’s (God forbid) cancellation so don’t think the ratings are going to drop! Bring it back ASAP!
Please take one of the few adult content dramas on television, OFF YOUR HIT LIST! C’mon, give the damn show a fighting chance. Don’t we have enough pointless, overly sexed, value/moral declined & declining, teen crap (gag reflex) on TV already? I’m raising my niece and the so called teen dramas on television today are anything but teen-ish, no plot…stick em in bed, writers block…sex scene! Here we have a wonderfully written and acted show that, by the way, my niece brought to my attention…and you don’t know what to do with it? Here’s a clue…LEAVE IT ALONE…its good TV!… Read more »
Love the show. Just found this looking to see if it was coming back and when. Keep it!
I really like Lie to Me. I wish they would bring it back and soon – there is nothing to watch – Lie to Me was really worth watching – a new fresh look to TV – verse all the CSI stuff – and was even educational – the characters where well matched. Intense programing – yet very enjoyable – – please keep the show and run it steady – so that it can grow and gain a larger rating base. ”
I think that Lie To Me (that i like) must have a better objective as The mentalist, that is the capture of Little John.
The serie with single episodes without major goals make the series sleepy and weak.
Finally, a TV show with a new and interesting idea, and they consider dumping it? For what, another reality show? Please do not get rid of Lie to Me, I really enjoy watching.
I really enjoy Lie to Me. It is one of three shows I allot time to watch. I was enjoying the Season 2 and then click — gone. I am eagerly anticipating its return. It is a unique show and the cast is developing some interesting substories.
My husband & I enjoy watching Lie to Me very much. It is an absolute fabulous show, bring truth to the airways and in its own subtle way showing how to see truth in what people are saying. It’s gutsy, entertaining, intriguing, and a joy to watch over the tons of garbage put out on the airwaves these days with all the ‘survivor/reality’ type garbage, total nonsense some call humor, and just how many CSI can there be. One of the few localized TV Shows that’s worth watching. 24 is excellent, Castle is fantastic, The Forgotten another top notch show… Read more »
I love lie to me! I love tim roth, he is such an amazing actor, from pulp fiction’s crazy antic to this lie machine is awesome!!! I HOPE FOX LETS THIS ONE STAY!!! and i cant wait until spring i guess for it to air more episodes even though i think this show is much better than 24!
Hi,
Definately keep Lie to me on!!! Really worth watching, but maybe put it on a different night like maybe Friday, or Saturday. This is a great show.
Lie To Me has captivated me from the first episode. I don’t care what night of the week it is on, I’ll always record it and watch it.
Love the show and have recorded every episode on my DVR. Would be very disappointed if Lie To Me does not return. Its a great show with some pretty interesting characters in the cast. And as far as watching the show I definately would watch it on any night because it is one of my favorite shows and since I have a DVR I can record any other show that conflicts with Lie to Me. Please do bring it back.
My husband loves this show. I was wondering where it went. I would totally watch it another night and time although I was enjoying it on Monday after House. Hope they bring it back.
I would be sincerely disappointed to see Lie To Me canceled. I think it’s a fresh idea that is fun and intriguing to watch. There is also a lot of underlying tensions that can definitely continue to drive the show. Fox needs to look at more than just the viewing count on Monday night- I have a scheduling conflict Monday night, but I always watch new episodes online, usually on Tuesday or Wednesday of that week. To get more accurate show ratings, TV stations are going to have to take online viewing into account. I know I’m anxiously waiting the… Read more »
I enjoy watching Lie to Me. It is a bit of a unique twist on the criminal drama
shows that are on now. All of the other shows such as NCIS and CSI have been
sort of done to death in my opinion. It’s nice to see something on the air that
has a fresh idea. I would be very disappointed if it were taken off of the air.
