Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I really enjoy this show. I dislike all the reality shows and sitcoms. Lie to me keeps me interested and I enjoy trying to figure out what is actually the real story behind those eyes. I do not enjoy any series that requires that I keep up with it from the beginning or forever be out of the loop. I agree with Shannon and Dee, drop 24 and keep Lie to Me. Put it on a different time slot if you have too.
I love this show. It is very unique and I’m an avid follower. I really hope some of the goofy shows are taken off and Lie to Me stays. I’d rather see it moved to another night and time slot rather than be eliminated all together. I agree with Shannon, I have never liked 24, and would much rather watch Lie to Me!
Lie to me is an amazing show and I hope it comes back soon and stays. Seriously I see some of the crap that stays on the air waves for years and years and wonder why shows like Dollhouse, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Lie to me and so much more are dead before given a shot. I’d really like to know what big wig thinks it’s a good idea to yank off good shows and continue pumping out crap garbage in it’s place. Fingers Crossed they are smart and put Lie to Me back on the air, right after House where… Read more »
I love Lie to me. The show is amazing and i watch a lot of tv and im sooooo sick and tired of fox starting a great series and killing it. like they did with futurama and Family guy. I hope that they keep this show going as long as law and order has been on. Everytime i watch an episode I feel like im learning something new and yes i know its fake but you know it has to be based on something true. What they need to do is put this show on after House to hopefully get… Read more »
As others are shouting, I agree. It is a unique series and the only one on TVwhich I have set aside time to anticipate and watch weekly. Hope the future ratings will suffice.
Please don’t cancel this show as it’s one of the few worth watching on TV-I love it . I bought the first season to watch until the new episodes resume.
I love this show! Very interesting! Original! Please don’t cancel.
This is one of the best most original shows on TV. Enough “reality”shows already! Please keep it going!
No, don’t cancel it…I LOVE IT!!
I truly enjoy the show “Lie to Me”, it is a refreshing way to view interviews with people. My son got me hooked on the show. Please bring it back.
Several people suggested I watch “Lie To Me” and I love it. Fox should bring it back – and soon!
I loved the show!! Please don’t cancel!!!
We do not watch a lot of television, but “Lie to Me” was one of our favorites. It would be a big mistake not to continue this series.
LOVE this show. It is SOOOO interesting! I love it! love love love it!
I love this show so much it is the only unique and interesting crime drama out there anymore. I am so sick of all the letter crime shows. At least this has wit and personality to stand above the rest. Tim Roth is amazing, and it is the only show on right now that I actually get excited for. This show is great and should keep going for a long time.
