Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

Love Lie to Me! One of the best shows on TV. So very happy it will be back! Hurry, there’s not much else to watch at the minute!
I love Lie To Me… I hope they do not cancel this show. It keeps my interest all the way through!
I, too, did a google search to find out about “Lie to Me”. It is absolutely my favorite
program and I really miss it. It is the one show that keeps me coming back to Fox. I like House also, but it is becoming so predictable. I certainly recommend Lie to Me to everyone I talk to, but many have not seen it. Please give it more advertising so more people will give it a try. So much better than 24. I certainly hope it remains on the air.
DON’T CANCEL LIE TO ME
MY FAVORITE SHOW
PLEASEE
PLEAASE PLEASE
I WILL DIE WITHOUT IT
I have missed Lie to Me sooo much, that I did a Google search to find out if it had been cancelled…..Thank God it hasn’t been and I hope it never is!! What a great show….I love “Dr. Cal Lightman”!!!
“Lie to me” was out of character for FOX: intelligent, interesting, almost educational while entertaining. We especially love the photos of real people exhibiting the microexpressions explained (though some people used as examples are too old and irrelevant to be recognized by younger generations). Plus, several books on the science of microexpressions have done well since this show was introduced. It’s the ONLY show on FOX we watch, so it is drawing a completely different audience than the other “entertainment”-only shows. We hope FOX decides the new demographic is worthwhile.
I LOVE this show! It’s smart, funny at times, great ideas and the characters are truly interesting. I even started ordering books about facial deception! There is nothing like it on TV, finally a NEW idea! FOX would be remiss if they didn’t renew it for more seasons. I enjoyed it more then 24, which is really lagging this year and was a bit last year as well. I would prefer to Lie to Me and skip 24!
BRING BACK ‘LIE TO ME!’
I love this show. Lie to me brought us back to Fox and regular tv. Please don’t cancel the show, it’s GREAT!
j
I enjoy Lie To Me so much I went out and bought the 1st season on DVD. Tim Roth is terrific in it. It’s a great concept for a show. Looking forward to the spring to watch all new episodes!!!
I miss Lie To Me! Can’t understand the reluctance to bringing it back on the air, but I eagerly await its return!
This is an awesome show. One of the best! Great characters and story lines!!!
Lie to Me is a smart, dynamic TV show. Reading body language and facial expressions is a fascinating topic. I hope the show can remain on the air for a few more years. The ensemble cast works well together.
Lie to Me is a smart show that brought me back to regular programming vs just watching the cable news. Please don’t disappoint those of us that truly enjoy the mastery of this show.
Lie to Me is one of the BEST shows that Fox has on television. Please don’t cancel this series. I don’t think they gave it enough time nor enough publicity with the public to engage their viewing. If they keep idiotic shows around like Human Target……. then what does this say???? Lie to me should definitely run right behind House on Mondays because it is an awesome show. The cast is fabulous and Cal Lightman is definitely the correct expert to play that part! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS SHOW!!! Please keep it on the air!
don’t cancel lie to me
it is a great show
