Why did CBS cancel Limitless? At this summer’s TCA press tour, network chief Glenn Geller explained why there will be no second season of the series, TVInsider reports.
Based on the 2011 film, the drama followed Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who is given a special drug that unlocks 100% of his brain. The cast also included Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Hill Harper, and Colin Salmon.
During the panel, Geller said CBS cancelled Limitless because he didn’t “think it connected with the viewers”:
Ultimately we had to look at the show; it was a very good show, but I don’t think it connected with the viewers as well as other shows had. Yeah, we could have brought it back. But we also have to put on new shows and give other things a shot. It could have come back, but we have to do better; we want to improve time periods. That’s why we put on new shows.”
What do you think? Did you watch Limitless? Do you think the show should’ve been renewed?
I’m sad that I don’t have a season two to watch, cbs should of kept this show going, the movie was awesome, this tv series is just as awesome.
Love the story line.
Not looking forward to reaching the end of season one knowing that someone dropped the ball and stopped the airing
I loved the series. I think they really missed out cancelling Season 2. I am so sorry I won’t be able to see more. The characters were great, especially the Brian character. Too bad.
Too bad it was not given another chance. In rewatching the series on Netflix you realize just how great a story it was and how the NZT drug seems so amazing for the main character. I also loved the movie by the same name. So it really sucks that there are no more of them even though it was so well done. I love the humor in it and Brian was such a loveable character.
One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. I was just telling my wife the other day how good the show was, so I was disappointed to find out that there would not be a second season.
Can’t even imagine why they stopped this. Was one of the most interesting serial in a few years. This show must continue!!!!
Entertaining television shows that can rise above cheap sex, explosions and car chases are really rare today. This was a great show in the vein of Castle, The Mentalist and Psych. To cancel it for a new show, just for the sake of putting on a new show is just lame. Hats off to the clueless people in charge of programming.
I can’t believe this show was cancelled. Big mistake. Huge. It’s the best thing I’ve found on Netflix in awhile. I am bitterly disappointed.
I cant believe this has been cancelled for a sceond season, because it disnt connecr with viewers? Well i dont believe that for a minute or i have a completley different taste in what to watch. There are so many dramas and police, detective series that are all the same and this was different interesting and funny at times. Anyway rant over
It’s difficult enough to find anything truly worth watching these days with a thousand channels but nothing to watch. Maybe one out of twenty series comes along offering a new spin with a staff and cast that generates believable relationships. Limitless did that. With all the redundant minutia that gets released, Limitless was refreshing, presenting it’s unique mixture of frivolity and drama. I will miss it.
these aren’t reasons… they are excuses… this show was too good to drop like this.
these isn’t reasons.. this is excuses. this show was too good to drop.
I loved this show and was extremely disappointed that it didn’t have a second season. It was witty, fun, dramatic, and executed well. The acting was believable and the characters were so memorable. Please, please bring it back!
If this show was truly cancelled due to a lack of connection with an audience, then it’s because the audience lacks the intelligence to comprehend the content of the show to enjoy it. The show surpasses the movie, the acting is stellar, the plot lines exceed typical shows of this genre, and still light-hearted enough that you’d think the meager intellect of the non-connecting audience would enjoy. Assuredly, it’s an expensive show to create, with the detailed digital graphics to display the inner workings of a genius, god-like mind. Netflix, are you out there…stop making mostly bad Television programs and… Read more »
This was one of the most interesting and entertaining shows on TV. To be replaced with the soggy shows on now is wasting the talents of Jake McDorman. Should have kept it and brought it back. It is not too late?
I enjoyed it and thought it was one of the better shows on TV. Where do they get their info when they say it didn’t relate to the viewers? Wrong decision CBS. Should have brought it back.
Netflix should have picked it up at season two. I am dissappointed that Bradley didn’t use his connections to keep it going. What were they thinking!
