The stars have aligned. This week, OWN announced Michele Weaver (pictured) and Will Catlett will star in the upcoming TV show Love Is.
From Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, the series is a “humorous drama about a modern-day power couple balancing successful careers and a beautiful family.”
On Love Is, Weaver will be playing Nuri, “a bubbly personality with big dreams who is struggling to make a name for herself as a sitcom staff writer while juggling an assortment of romances that only leave her partly fulfilled.” Meanwhile, Catlett has been cast as Yasir, “an aspiring writer/director who is down to his last two unemployment checks, and he lives (unhappily) with his on-and-off-again ex.”
OWN has not yet announced a premiere date for Love Is, but you can read more casting details below:
We’re pleased to announce the casting of the lead roles in the upcoming OWN drama series LOVE IS___, from executive producers Mara Brock Akil & Salim Akil, Akil Productions and Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
· Michele Weaver (Nighthawks, Illicit, Switched at Birth) has been cast in the female lead role of Nuri. Nuri is a bubbly personality with big dreams who is struggling to make a name for herself as a sitcom staff writer while juggling an assortment of romances that only leave her partly fulfilled. After she meets Yasir, himself unemployed and barely holding onto his dreams, Nuri changes all her opinions about what she expects from a man because she’s just found the one who is perfect for her.
· Will Catlett (Black Lightning) has been cast in the male lead role of Yasir. Yasir is an aspiring writer/director who is down to his last two unemployment checks, and he lives (unhappily) with his on-and-off-again ex. But after meeting the stunning Nuri, Yasir finds a reason to alter his life and the drive to access his potential.

Whoever found Michele Weaver to cast her for this show needs a gold medal. This girl is a diamond and adorable as hell. I just wish they had not played up her light skin though. It is high time black folks got over the light and black skin tone stuff. Light blacks are still black and us yellow blacks like me have also been called a Ni–ger by racist they just add yellow Ni–ger to the word.
I have enjoyed most of the dramas on OWN and the creativity is supreme. But looking at whom I assume will be the lead for this new show, the lead females for the new shows are always very L&B. Is this deliberate?
That is not true that the lead females are light and bright if that is what you meant. Have you seen the lead female actor of The Have and Have Nots?
