What’s This TV Show About?
A political thriller airing on the CBS television network, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Elizabeth was once a CIA analyst, who exited that post for ethical reasons. She later returned to public life, at the request of President Conrad Dalton (Carradine). He values her apolitical leanings, knowledge of the Middle East, flair for languages, and unconventional thinking. Elizabeth is married to Henry (Daly), a former theology professor who is now an intelligence operative. Together, they’re bringing up three children, which can really test her diplomatic skills.

Telly’s Take
Will CBS cancel or renew Madam Secretary for season five? In the 2016-17 television season, this show’s demo ratings ranked 20th out of 26 scripted CBS series, but it drew enough viewers to rank eighth in terms of audience size. This installment will give it a decent sized syndication package, so a cancellation is somewhere between possible and likely. For now, I’ll keep an eye on the ratings and update this page from time to time. Subscribe for free updates on any Madam Secretary cancellation or renewal news.
4/18/18 update: CBS has renewed Madam Secretary for a fifth season for 2018-19. Details here.

What do you think? Are you glad that the Madam Secretary TV show has been renewed for a fifth season? How would you feel if CBS had cancelled this TV series, instead?
I love love this show. It has suspense, action, energy, and lots of drama packed in a one hour episode. The Washington political spin that is woven into each show seems to be taken from much of what is happening or could be happening today. The family dynamics coupled with the political intrigue of this show make this one of the BEST TV SERIES.
I ADORE almost EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW. Please keep it, there are so few shows left on television that are not filled with violence, unnecessary foul language, over the top immoral behavior etc. This show is a well written drama with just enough humor to keep it light. Any drama that comes close doesn’t have the humor and it becomes too heavy. LOVE IT!!!
Great series
As a viewer in the UK I can honestly say this programme is so realistic it leaves me breathless. I know nothing of US protocol for nuclear attack but this Nightwatch episode was so compelling and the arguments for the de-alert sounded so authentic that it was amazing. Please do not cancel series 5 . Christina UK
I would be devestated if they cancelled. It is my favorite show. I think Madame President would be Awesome.
I hope to see this canceled someday so the series “Madam President” can start! The weird step backs in time during the last episode of season four had me on the edge of my couch! #1 on my DVR settings, never miss an episode!
I liked the show. However, my belief that a woman working in the state department dealing with many cultures would ever accept dealing with someone with a Mohawk and shaved head is ludicrous. I quit watching when they brought in this character.
I completely agree with this statement. I haven’t quit watching but it lost a great deal of credibility…
Thank you ABC in renewing a fantastic series. Great acting and awesome spin on relevant topics. Just am fascinated with the writing and story line…
Thankfully, our favorite show, madame Secretary has been renewed. My husband and I would have been extremely disappointed if it had been cancelled. So looking forward to season 5!!!!
I look forward to Sunday night with the McCord’s. If the show is canceled I would have to boycott channel 11. Please renew the show.
Please renew, it’s an excellent series, great storylines with great actors playing amazing parts. Please give us series 5
Please renew madam Secretary. I love this show. We have watched it on Netflix all 3 seasons in just 2 weeks. I want more. Please.
I have loved this show since episode 1 of first season – intelligent storylines, excellent actors and acting, good humour, interesting new characters coming around…..just a top-notch series. I lose faith in television when good series like this are cancelled – PLEASE keep it going!! Your stats do not tell the whole story!
We live this show and record it regularly so as not to miss it! Keep it coming!
Why do we miss at least 1/2 of Madamn Secretary because other shows run lonf on Sunday night? I already dvr the 11:00pm news to try to catch other 1/2 but sometimes that doesn’t work either. Happens often on CBS. Not critizing-just would like to see shows in their intirity{sp?}.. Most of favorite shows are on CBS. I worked 42 yrs so I could retire and watch tv-just want to enjoy it. Thank you…
