Major Crimes has a major change in store. Recently, showrunner James Duff spoke with TVLine about the season five return of the TNT series.
The crime drama follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. The cast includes Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, and Jonathan Del Arco. TNT has already renewed the show for a sixth season.
In the interview, Duff expressed concern over TNT’s decision to move the show to Wednesday nights:
This is not the night I would have picked, and this is not the time of year that I would have picked to come back on. … I do believe that we have some experience in locating our viewers, and letting them know where we are. We do keep up a very active social media presence, and we are in communications with our viewers as closely as we can be.
But we are very actively trying to get the message out to people. I do hope that Wednesday night at 9 doesn’t end up being a big problem for us.”
Season five of Major Crimes returns this Wednesday, February 22nd, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
What do you think? Do you watch Major Crimes? Are you concerned about the timeslot change?
I personally like the new night for one reason alone: there is nothing on for me on Wednesday nights.
TNT is clearly and foolishly trying to get rid of the show in favor of more edgier fare. They’re not FX, but are trying to be. They had a good thing going with their crime procedurals, but have moved away from that. They’re going to use any ratings shortfall with this time slot change to justify their ultimate decision.
If TNT wanted to get rid of this show, it would have been gone…like Rizolli and Isles, as well as Murder in the First.
Putting on Major Crimes against Law & Order SUV (NBC) could be troublesome although recording is an option. Seems foolish and risky to change the viewing night, and even though the show has allegedly been picked up for a 6th series it is not a guarantee. Love the show.
Looked at CM’s and SVU’s ratings recently, particularly in demo. Right now, they are averaging a 900k to 1.1m loss in DEMO alone. My guess is with the move, MC, which has always been a steady performer for TNT and has shown growth at times it shouldn’t have, is being moved to try to capture some of that disgruntled CM/SVU DEMO viewers. I am not sure why James is dissatisfied with this period of time. We had our Epic 5 during these months last time and we rocked it. In fact, we showed growth when R&I showed loss. As for… Read more »
I always liked the Monday night time zone, Wednesday nights are kind of crazy if you ask me, there is Lethal Weapon on Fox @ 8 pm, CBS @ 9 pm is Criminal Minds and NBC is Law and Order SUV… I will always watch Major Crimes, No matter what, but like Monday’s soo much better, can I ask why they decided to move it.. ?? Kind of strange, when something works keep it that way…. I know NCIS L. A., has been moved around allot. I think they finally found their spot, Sunday nights. I’ve been watching since The… Read more »
The time slot is a major problem for me! This is one of my favorite shows & it will be one when another favorite show is on – this is NOT GOOD! The time slot was PERFECT on MONDAYS!
We would never miss an episode! Our No ! favorite show! But I see the problem. We love the entire cast and crew especially the Rusty story line,,his character has brought his situation out front and how it can be overcome with the love of good people. I would love to see something wonderful for Julio and his private life. Eventually,I think Rusty could be a spin off, lots of story there still, Hiatus time is sooo hard! Welcome back!
I am never home on Wednesday evenings, so I hope I will be able to catch each episode on the TNT app after the fact. I have watched all previous seasons.
I’ll watch when ever it is on, but they do need to up the ante on the writers, go back to the basics the Closer an Major Crimes the hits that they were and can be again.
the station major crimes comes on is shown twice at 8and 10 so if I need to I can record because I don’t plan on missing It.
YES I AGREE NO PROBLEM! I will NOT miss it not matter the time or date…this crew is so personally connected to its audience…very real down to earth!!Great work!
I really enjoy Major Crime’s, I will put the word out about time slot, I will be watching it.
I record the show in my DVR. I have watched all the episodes. I could do without Rusty. He adds absolutely nothing to the show.
I don’t care what time it’s on, as long as it’s on!
Can you say DUH? It goes up against EMPIRE, Modern Family/Blackish, Criminal Minds, Law & Order SVU and The Magicians, among other shows. Who in their right mind wants to compete with them for viewers? Of course the show runner doesn’t want to go up against all that. Will going up against all those shows hurt its ratings and affect how many people will watch it live? Of course it will.
Bet it won’t.
I love that show i’m going to watch it no matter when it’s on. I just want it to stay on the air.
