Are you a fan of Major Crimes? If the cancelled TNT show was picked up by another channel, would you watch a seventh season?
As we reported earlier, TNT has cancelled the crime drama after six seasons. The series follows the further investigations of the detectives in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. Stars include Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, GW Bailey, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Robert Gossett, Phillip P. Keene, Graham Patrick Martin, Kearran Giovanni, and Jonathan Del Arco.
In a recent Facebook post, creator James Duff says he hopes Major Crimes will be picked up by either another network like CBS or a streaming service like Hulu. However, Warner Brothers TV Studio owns the former TNT series and it’s unlikely another distributor will acquire a show they don’t own outright:
Number 1 question (no competition!): Couldn’t Major Crimes continue on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon or CBS All access? Or even another cable company?
This answer has two parts.Transferring Major Crimes to a streaming platform would probably be a net plus in subscriptions for the company that took the risk. I am sure a large part of our audience would follow. But the acquisition of Major Crimes would be purely a business decision.
There was a time, in the not too distant past, when executives would not have cared from whence a decent drama or comedy originated, as long as it drew a crowd on the day-of-air. Today, most programming chiefs ask themselves, “But does this a show reflect my brand?” or, “Will this drama/comedy make my company some place the ‘cool kids’ avoid?” Though I think this is a little like suggesting people will change grocery stores if the Kettle Potato Chips are too near the Pringles, there are people who take this notion quite seriously. It’s possible my grasp of the concept is muddied; I have never cared about being cool. Anyway! I don’t believe the audience was watching Major Crimes because it was on TNT; I believe they were watching TNT in order to see Major Crimes. I could be wrong.
Another impediment to going elsewhere: Major Crimes is the property of Warner Brothers Television Studio; most other distribution platforms are focused on not only airing new shows, but also owning them. This is a bit of inside baseball (and I promise not digress into a discussion about the Sherman Anti-Trust Act), but it is a challenging factor in deciding where else Major Crimes could live.
Nevertheless, would you watch Major Crimes if it moved to another network? Tell us what you think.
Season six of Major Crimes premieres on TNT on October 31st at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Yes, I love this show and would watch it on another network or platform if I could. I still can’t believe it has been canceled.
Yes, it’s one of the few shows I pay attention to 100% of the time. I usually record and have to watch twice because I look things up on my iPad. Now I put it away after I have dinner,
Yes I definitely would I’ve watched this from the beginning of The Closer and love the show and the characters!
Nah. It’s nothing special and there are many similar shows to fill the void. Plus it skews old. Who would want it? Networks need to work on finding different types of series and be creative instead of rehasing the same old stuff.
My favourite show and I regularly watch the DVD’s of both The Closer and Major Crimes. I need more new series though!
YES I WOULD WATCH MAJOR CRIMES BUT IT WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER IF kyra sedgwick WAS BACK WITH THEM. ALL IN ALL A VERY GOOD POLICE DRAMA.
Yes I would watch Major Crimes on ANY channel. I’m so tired of good shows like Major Crimes being cancelled. Good storylines on this show and the cast work so well together on the show. I hope this show is picked up on another channel.
Yes I would!!!!
Yes, I would definitely follow major crimes if it moves to another channel!!! There is so little GOOD shows to watch. Enough of the reality shows and lame comedy already!
I really enjoy Major Crimes and yes I would watch it if another service picked it up. It’s worth my tv time.
I would watch it on any network I love major crimes
I love this show, and it’s predessor The Closer. I would watch them on any network or streaming service that picked them up. To me it has been and continues to be one of the best shows regardless of what media platform, network, etc… one partake’s in. IMO it’s one of the classier drama and or drama action shows on TV. The characters are well written, all have different and likeable differences. The show is what people crave. I also believe TNT along with USA networks are going through an identity crisis. They don’t know what direction to go in… Read more »
Yes yes and yes. It started with the closer, I stayed for the major crimes. I’m not ready. Season 7 would equal and put me at peace.
I would watch Major Crimes on ANY network EXCEPT a subscription one had to pay extra for, such as hulu, netflix, etc. Cable charges are EXCESSIVE as it is!
Yes any channel would be great
