Though its viewership has been quite small, Manahattan has been renewed for a second season on WGN America. The period TV show’s first season finale airs this Sunday night.
Set in 1943, Manhattan follows the residents of a secret town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Hidden away by the federal government, scientists live there with their families while they work to build the world’s first atomic bomb. The cast includes John Benjamin Hickey, Olivia Williams, Alexia Fast, Ashley Zukerman, Rachel Brosnahan, Daniel Stern, Katja Herbers, Christopher Denham, Harry Lloyd, Michael Chernus, Eddie Shin, Daniel London, and Mark Moses.
The 11 episodes that have aired so far have averaged a 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 420,000 viewers. The cable channel is still very new to producing their own scripted series so likely has low expectations at this point.
What do you think? Do you like the Manhattan TV show? Do you plan to watch season two?
Yes! I will definitely be watching the second season of this show. I loved it and couldn’t stop watching it, and when I did I couldn’t wait to get back and watch more. Sometimes it could get a little slow but that didn’t take away from how good it was.
This is a well made series with a great cast. I can’t wait for a second season and hope it will continue past that, they could have made a great movie out this series. Fine job and worthy of awards, if shows like Transparent can take home a Golden Globe, then Manhatten certainly is worthy more so I think.
We thought Manhattan to be excellent. We watched it as it was aired and then recorded all episodes when WGN had a Manhattan all day showing and have been watching each episode again. Very glad to hear of a second season. I’m surprised that the viewership was so low. I guess there are many who haven’t realized what a quality show it is. There were other facilities similar to Los Alamos created during the WWII and the trying times the people had to endure were amazing. Of course, Los Alamos was, at that time, quite isolated from the US and… Read more »
Hola Manhattanites! (Sorry ’bout that…LOL)
Ooo Ooo!!! As noted earlier, WGN anticipates the second Season will be this date. Thus, while the date/time are APPROXIMATE, I hope this http://tinyurl.com/lty927y will keep you alert for the time being!!!
In the meantime, here’s an interesting…albeit audio…commentary about the show http://tinyurl.com/obu9odn. Lo, the first half tends to be about nerdy stuff, but the last touches the more ‘human’ !
Manhattan has the quality, drama, excitement, and pull of the top series available today. I saw the previews, knew I could not watch it weekly and expected to “catch it later”. I did, and decided to immediately support the show by buying the series first year on I-tunes. If we don’t contribute in some way how can we expect they will be able to continue making it? We also have the power to “Make a change”…buy a copy, send a clear message – Then show a friend, post a note on a favorite site – Spread the word!
This show was outstanding and I am looking forward to Season 2. There’s a lot of room for more intrigue and treachery. I’m surprised more people didn’t watch it.
There is a good book by Martin Cruz Smith (Stallion Gate) on the Manhattan Project which is worth reading.
Great story line. Brought me back to a different time- seeing how human nature has so many twists and turns- the good and bad. Love the story- can’t wait for more.
Arrghh! 5 of us have been waiting for season 2 to begin in January and now I’m reading this post that it will be July. Why is it taking a year? Many will give up on it by then (not us). It is so hard to find the wgn network even when you are looking for it! And people are looking for new shows in winter, not summer. It’s such a great show- it deserves a better chance. We can’t wait!
Great to read your enthusiasm Deb. While I’d like it on now as well, summer needs a few ‘goodies’ too…LOL. In the meantime, winter does offer us the return of Downton Abbey now, the Americans 1/28, the newbie spin off of Br Ba, Better Call Saul 2/8, and House of Cards on 2/27 . In the meantime, I’d suggest A Spy’s Guide to Santa Fe and Albuquerque about the “fallout” of the Manhattan era, and most importantly, spread the word on Manhattan-Thanks!
I love the series. My wife and I watched on Amazon.
I was glad to hear that Manhattan will have a second season. However, I believe the shows writers will have a little problem this year.
A report was released by the federal government last August that discloses that the threat of espionage was from the Soviets, not the Germans. It was prepared in 1945 but classified as secret and not released to the public until this year. I wonder how they will handle this new information?
Yo Roger,
Sorry I cannot bring a scene to mind that notes a threat of espionage being from the Germans instead of the Soviets. In any event, I’d offer checking out this from my earlier comment:
Here’s another look into the era which you might read prior to coming for a sightseeing vacation: http://tinyurl.com/ak8x7dp (Addendum: see Comments as well. Check one’s own library for a copy.)
How about an interesting place to stay http://tinyurl.com/3sdgsuh click on the newspaper articles.
Hope that helps.
Love this series. So glad to hear there will be a second season.
I just watched the entire first season of Manhattan on Hulu. Loved it!!! Thank you for renewing it for another season. I can hardly wait.
Loved the show. I got hooked on it. Can’t wait for season 2.
I like the show was disappointed to find out that the characters except Oppenheimer and the general are made up but the story sticks true to the development of the a bomb
Yo…I emailed WGN about an approximate date for Season 2: Ans: “Manhattan’s season 2 will take place July 2015. I will have the exact date in May. I suspect it will be the second Sunday in July. Cheers WGN America” As such and per the “fragile” number of viewers of Season 1, I’d ask Y’all to try to spread the word to increase its ratings per being a somewhat “unknown” Channel. I do not have HULU, but understand Season 1 can be viewed there. If nothing else, Folks might be lured through “clips” from S1 which can be viewed here… Read more »
thanks Bob McC for the info on season 2.
