At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

This show has got to come back! It was an amazing show, that left you on your toes. They are idiots if they don’t bring it back. I mean come on! Trauma or Mercy? MERCY!
I think they should have a least made another season, even if it was internet or DVD only. I still want to know what happens to Mike. So upsetting that they cancelled it. 🙁 </3
I am very disappointed. I loved both Mercy and Trauma! I hope they change their mind.
Bring mercy back! I loved it n is super sad that its cancelled! PLEASE!
I just need to stop watching television! Everything I like gets canceled. If they were wondering whether or not the show would last, why wouldn’t they decide to wrap it up on the season finale? At the very least the 4.01 million viewers that did watch the show could get some closure; and if it happened to make it to a second season, YAY.
NBC you SUCK! A great TV series with heart and reality and you choose to cut it. Oh I got it lets just continue with the excesive violence and crap that you prefer to air. What a waste of my few moments of down time from being a real nurse. Why did you even waste our time. Boycot NBC!!!
I found this series on Netflix and LOVED IT!!! Can’t believe there’s not a 2nd season….or at least a few more episodes to bring closure to the end of season one!….but preferrable a season two. The show had me from episode one, but i kept getting more and more into it as it went too. Like it better than Grey’s Anatomy, and it’s in my top two favorite shows now! Please bring it back…..pretty please?
Miranda
