At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

Love this show! I also watched on DVR, as I do most all my shows, but was surprised when I got to the last one and it said Season Finale. Was so excited for it to come back in the fall. I hope they reconsider!!!
you have got to be kidding me!
It is a sad day.
I’m sooooo upset. There’s no way this should be cancelled – everyone I know watched it, loved it, and can’t believe it’s over. BIG MISTAKE!
Heroes cancelled??? the comments on here are right, great shows get cancelled; it doesn’t matter how great? Reaper was awesome and it got cancelled. Seriously, if TV really has an impact on our brains and the decisions we make, than Networks are trying to push stupid brain-dead shows to make us even more stupid. Shows like Reaper and Heroes should be sponsored by the Discovery Channel. A channel for non idiots who have a higher intelligence and can read between the line of the programs. These shows are genius!
Pls bring mercy back.I love the show.
NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! not Mercy how can we stop this? I can so relate to this show being in the army and now going through nursing school NBC you suck!!!
when is NBC gonna keep the good shows? i think the only good shows that are coming back are “Chuck”, “Law & Order: SVU”, and their comedy line-up. why do they keep cancelling the great shows and keeping all the crappy game and “reality” shows? there’s something wrong with all the huge networks. i love Mercy. i think its better than Grey’s Anatomy now. it could have been the next ER but they never give any shows a chance. they might as well not even make all these great shows because they’re just breaking my heart when they cancel them.
BRING BACK MERCY ……why did NBC just tease us i am NOT going to watch yet ANOTHER REALITY SHOW OR A LAWYER DRAMA ….
Omg I am soooooooooo dissapointed…bring it back!!!!!all the good shows are being cancelled….
very upset they cancelled Mercy. i loved, loved, loved the show.
for god sakes just once could you end a show and not leave those of us who actually spend time to watch hanging?? If you want dedicated audiences treat us with some respect and finish or at least tie up what you start. You wonder why DVR’s are taking over. I won’t watch your idiot ads if you keep on axing shows like mercy without an ending.
I really loved the show Mercy and I’m sad to hear that it has been cancelled. It’s even more frustrating given the cliffhanger ending for this season. I wish there would at least have been an additional episode wrapping things up…but I do not feel this show should have been cancelled at all. Frustrating.
Never missed an episode. Looked forward to it each week. Needs more time to deliver audience. NBC making a mistake to cancel
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS I’VE SEEN IN A LONG TIME! I LOVE IT! PLEASE NBC…RECONSIDER. SAVE MERCY!!!!!!!!!!
I am so upset that they cancelled this show. I loved it. I don’t think they rated it fairly. They put it on next to american idol and most people watch american idol and dvr mercy. So if they could count all that dvr this show they would have the ratings they needed. I say give it another shot but put it on a different nite and see what happens. I really hope they reconsider.
