At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

The show was excellent and what a finale! They have to have a season 2. It was the craziest cliffhanger I’ve seen in ages. One boyfriend possibly dead by terrorists, the other ex possibly hit by a car?!? Are you serious. They can’t leave it that way. The show did have an audience maybe one of the cable guys will pick it up?
im pregnant and Mercy was the only reason why i would fight my sleep to stay up and watch..i loved that show..i really hope they put that back on the air…someone please pick this up..shoot how they wrapped it up wasent right either lol
This is sad… I really liked Mercy. I love the characters. I hope someone picks up the show.
I loved this show!
I am sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled. I LOVED that show. As it is, there are very few shows that I like and that was one of them!
I live in New Jersey this show did hit home, unfortunate we dont know the out come and why it would be canceled but again NJ always gets a bad name but most of your stars (true actors or bands) come from here.
You might want to give us a bad name but we are a rockin state
NBC– I am not surprised that this show is cancelled because it seems like the best ones always are!!! I loved this show. I have an idea—-how about putting it on USA?? There are some really great shows there, and I love how some shows are in the off seasons, just when there are awful reruns!
I really looked forward to Mercy on Weds. They did a great job developing the characters and I am disappointed at the cancellation. If another network doesn’t pick it up, I would hope they would have one-time wrap up.
i really liked mercy, and the cast. I too hope it is picked up by someone and returns. It was alot better than the trauma show, no comparison.
I cannot believe you are taking Mercy off, how can you do that. You just left all of the faithful watchers just hanging. Please do not do that. Is it a political thing because they talk to much about the war. Please rethink your decision.
LOVED the show. Couldn’t wait until it came on every week. Great acting, interesting and exciting! It is a SAD day!
Very bummed… I love that show. I can’t believe that was the last show. Not fair to leave us hanging like that.
Mercy was one of the best shows of the season! The acting is fantastic, the story line/plot ever unfolding and addicting. Seems like the only shows that make it are pointless reality shows and shows with nothing but sexual overtones running thru them. I hope another network picks it up.
I looked forward to “Mercy” every week. The themes it hit on were relevant and well written. The acting was great and left me hanging for the next episodes. It is too bad that it hadn’t been discovered by a larger audience.
Mercy was one of my favorite shows. I hope someone picks it up and puts it in a different time slot. Fabulous acting and story lines. What a shame.
I totally agree with you. I love having the show Mercy. I had to watch it every week. It was nice to see a medical drama that showed the lives and jobs of nurses not just the doctors. Finally get to see the other side. I hope it comes back on the air. Plus how dare they just end it like that. They could of at least finished the story.
