At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I cannot believe that such a great show is cancelled! I am deeply upset by this decision and at this point I do not think i can continue watch NBC its just one disappointment after another….
deeply devastated fan of Mercy,
Lola
this just breaks my heart…. now i have NOTHING to look forward to on tv (except family guy.. hehe)….
the last episode was intense too… ARGH!
I like the show alot, a little more consistancy of air date and time would have been helpful. I would watch another season for sure.
I loved Mercy and was so mad when I heard they cancelled it! After watching the season finale they can’t just leave us hanging like that!! PLEASE PLEASE let someone pick up this show! My husband and I both watched. It was like real life…dealing with the issues they had…I will miss Mercy!
I am very sad Mercy has ended! I like it better than any of the other hospital dramas. It’s definitely better than grey’s anatomy so why is that still on the air? Please take it back!
How could you do this to me! This was my favorite show!!!!! Now what do I watch? I am so mad at you for taking this off!!!!!!! Give this a chance !!!!!
I too am very mad!!! I have watched Mercy from the very first episode because I thought it looked interesting in the previews and because I kept hearing….”if you liked ER then you’ll love Mercy”….well I did!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never missed one episode. I always dvr’d it because when i watched it i didn’t want to be disturbed….I absolutely loved it…my favorite show, looked forward every week to watching it and got bummed when i saw it wasn’t on that week. I just recently watched the finale episode and thought it was very good, but to end like that when you… Read more »
Please do not drop this show!!! What do we have to do to bring it back? Everybody who likes this show please help!!
I am Shocked!! I have been an RN for 10 years, and this was the only Medical show I Loved! What can I do to get it back on!
I didn’t start watching the show til mid season, it quickly became one of my favorite shows. I hope it gets picked up by another network & given another chance.
i am so FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!! how could they do this!!!!!!!!!!
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!! now what am i going to look forward to???? ahhhhhhhhh im so mad!
Mercy was my most favorite show ever!!! I absolutely am horrified that it is cancelled. I am a tv-aholic and my opinion should count for something! I think the characters and plot has developed nicely. Please somebody out there hear my cry and pick up the show for next season! My friend and I watch it and talk about it at work we are both ICU nurses and we make our schedules work around Mercy! Mercy brings me back to sanity after a stressful week at work.
I think it’s a great show and should retun for a second season. GIven that it appears people are getting fed up with the “competition” shows like Grey’s anatomy and private practice as they seem to have the same recurring plot lines. Although I enjoy both of those shows I find Mercy to be a great new show and should be given a second chance.
Perhaps more promoting of the show would help as I have never once seen a commercial or previews of upcoming episode.
Thank you
Mercy was my favorite, it got off to a bad start because of the changes in it’s schedule.
Here is hoping that they pick it back up. The last show left it open to more shows.
i’ve been watching this show from the start, and i thoroughly enjoy it, and my kids do too! i’m very upset i wont be able to see it anymore, i’ll have to watch re runs on my dvr, as i have them all saved. please put it back on!!!!!!!!
Mercy was one of my favorite shows too. I hope someone picks it up. That finale was a huge cliffhanger. I think CBS could/should because they seem to want to do a medical show, but their current attempts have failed.
If they were going to cancel the show they should have wrapped it up better. Mercy was a little different than the shows that have been put on tv recently. When a show ends at the end of an hour and you wonder where that hour went, that is capturing your attention and keeping you interested. There was so many good things about that show, including the actors and actresses who portrayed interesting people. Maybe someone needs to give shows like this a little more time and stop changing time slots or skipping weeks at a time. People forget when… Read more »
