At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

This was a great show that was a wonderful mix of humor and drama. I too hope another network picks it up if NBC is silly enough to let it go. Both Trauma and Mercy will now be left with unknown endings ???????????
I really loved this show. I agree with a comment about reality shows – I like some but most are kind of lame. I like these characters and would like for the show to be picked up by someone else. And, it would be nice if they could at least do a few shows to wrap it up.
Too bad, I was really enjoying the show and made a point to have my evening chores done so I could sit down and watch the show.
Hope another network does pick it up!! I thought the casting and story line was really interesting.
I can’t believe they cancelled this show. I never missed it. One of the better ones. Did not like Trauma though. Just could not get into the characters or anything about the show Wonder why all the good shows get cancelled by the networks. NBC isn’t the only one doing it. It started with Joan of Arcadia getting replaced by stupid Ghost Whisperer. Then Life on Mars, then the show that followed it, The Unusuals another Amber Tamblyn show. The Unusuals was great and really different from the mostly stupid network fare these days. Very sorry to see that one… Read more »
I loved this show. I am so tired of reality shows and sitcoms. Think I’ll just rent movies and read a book! They are pulling the good shows and leaving the junk!
I am so sad that Mercy is canceled, I really, really like that show a lot. I am a nurse, and out of all the medical shows I could relate to it the most. I occasionally have to work night shifts, so it is tough for me to watch a show consistently. I would catch up with missed episodes on demand. It is unfortunate that networks only care about ratings, and how many viewers tune in the night it airs. I am very disappointed with NBC….
Mercy was my ER!! When they took ER off the air, Marcy replaced it!! I am really pissed about this cancellation!!!
This is a HUGE disappointment!!! I LOVED this show. They always cancel the good stuff. There is so much stupid stuff on T.V…This by far was one of the best shows on T.V..
That is soooooo true!!
Great show, never missed an episode. Very dissappointed in the decision to cancel.
Best show of the season!!! would be easier to follow if was on same station and same time. Not sure why it jumped around ,but was able to keep up with the episodes on line.
This was one of the best shows and hello ppl dvr it do those votes count?? they are only hurting themselves because its coing to piss alot of ppl of. I love trauma and now I wish i kept all the recordings!!!
I love Mercy and I think they should reconsider and RENEW IT I dvr this show every week I hope another network picks this up and gives it a better time slot if they dont reconsider. Then they can be our HEROES!
I 100% agree!!
Mercy was one of my top favorite shows! I cannot believe it is cancelled….what is NBC thinking?!!!!!!
This was one of my favorite new shows!!!!!! I am going to miss Veronica and all the others!!!!!
How sad…….Maybe the networks need to take another look at the demographics. I am 57 and along with others in my age group really enjoyed this show. We also have the disposable income at this point in our lives to be able to purchase things advertised on television. People in their 50’s, 60’s and above have the means more so I believe than the younger generation. It would be great if the show was picked up by another network however I won’t hold my breath. I also had loved Lipstick Jungle and it was cancelled as well. What am I… Read more »
NBC kills another great show!!! I was hoping there would be a season 2 in the works with a cliffhanger like that. And to just cancel without any sort of closure is just wrong. NBC screwed every viewer over with that finale. No ending at all…WTF NBC!!!
