At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

this is completely and uterly wrong they should put mercy back on tv that was one of the best medical shows sence they took ER off ther air and that was horabile when they did that i think they need more medical shows on tv and need to leave them on longer than just 12 episods
Mercy was a great show, one of my favorites. Everytime I find a show on NBC I enjoy they cancel it! What a total disappointment!
I think it really sucks that Mercy is getting cancelled… and NBC couldn’t even air a Final Episode, what the heck?! Even last weeks episode had a preview of what this weeks final season episode is suppose to be, and then it didn’t even air! It’s a bunch of crap! I say bring Mercy back. The characters are the best, Chloe is hilarious in her own ditzy sarcastic way and Veronica is the best, I absolutely love her personality and feel I can relate to her! Well hoping there’s something they can do to improve the line up on NBC… Read more »
WTH NBC! Nothing like leaving the show hanging like that. I’m not sure I’ll ever watch a show on your damn network again. The absolute least you could do it give us a series finale. Make your viewers happy to at least know how the story ends.
I actually hope some cable network picks the show up and runs with it, I think 4+ million viewers will be tuning in there and still not checking out NBC’s lame lineups, I hope the network gets what it has coming to them.
This is the only NBC show i watched. I loved it! UGH!! I am so angry that they would cancel it and not provide a finale!!!
I, too, am disappointed that Mercy has been cancelled. I liked the story line and the fact that is was a drama series. I dislike reality TV shows and feel that there should be more TV shows with subject matter that we can relate to and even hope that relationships will develop. NBC needs to compete with the channels which offer series like the “CSI: Mami”. the “Mentalist” and “House”. About the only show you offer that stands out in my mind is “Law and Order”. Please reconsider your decision and at least air the remaining series so that there… Read more »
I was wondering what happen to the Mercy Show. Every Wednesday I made sure that I would be clue to my TV to watch the show. Mercy please come back.
I loved this show. It was awesome and I loved each character. It’s a shame that it’s been cancelled and I continue to see other crap being renewed!! What a disappointment.
I loved that show. Thought it was the best new series. Please air the remaining episodes so those who loved it can see the finale. Sorry for the cast, you were amazing!!!
I completely agree with you B, there were some amazing actors on the show and I think that this could have really launched their careers 🙁 very upset we won’t know how things unfold. PLEASE BRING MERCY BACK!!!
That just bites!!! Mercy was a great show and I looked forward to it every week.
This was the only show on NBC I watched and I loved it. I really liked all the characters and they had alot of room to grow into their stories. Now, nothing to watch on NBC.
I guess I was just one of those 4 MILLION VIEWERS that REALLY LOVED MERCY!!! I’m so upset to see that it’s been cancelled! Being a nurse myself – I thought that Mercy had the most realistic medical experiences from a NURSING prospective, VS shows such as Hawthorne, and Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice which are completely unrealistic and don’t include NURSING AT ALL!! I loved Veronica and all her knowledge and lack of hesitating to intervene and help people and standing up to the physicians! Plus her relationships between Mike and Dr Sands were really really steamy!! I agree… Read more »
i love mercy! i am definitely sad to see it cancelled especially with how the season ended…i really want to know if one or both of them die…and i would like to see ronnie get back with mike ;))
I liked “Mercy” and am disappointed that it has been cancelled. They should have given it another season to grow a wider audience and further develop the characters.
Everytime I find a show on NBC that I really like, it’s canceled. Such was the case with Crossing Jordan, Lipstick Jungle, and now Mercy. We really like Mercy, and are getting very tired of all of the reality shows that keep replacing our favorites. More and more I believe what friends have told us, which is, “NBC stands for Nothing But Crap”.
