At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I’m very upset with the fact that mercy has been caceled!
It was one of the only shows I looked forward to watch.
Such a dissapointment. Hopefully another network picks
it up cause it would be such a waist to loose such a great
show.
I think it’s a travesty that smart shows like MERCY & TRAUMA get cancelled, when robotic & formulaic shows like HOUSE & MEDIUM get renewed season after season. Mercy & Trauma had great character development & evolving relationships as opposed to House & Medium where the characters do the same thing week after week & never seem to grow. I’m really bummed that they are gone & wish there was a chance that cable might pick up one or both of these shows.
NOOOOO This is my favorite show!! Don’t cancel it!!
That’s terrible for all of us who LOVED Mercy. And it didn’t even give us a satisfactory ending! 🙁
I can not believe NBC. Mercy and Trama were both great shows. My DVR is still full of all the shows. NBC is crazy not to renew these shows. Mercy was better than ER to me and my friends. Love the actors and love the story line. Please do not do this.
So NBC lets garbage like Heroes stick around for 5 seasons before canceling it, but a quality show like Mercy gets the axe after one?
After the Conan fiasco, I swear NBC is run by idiots, and not the regular kind of idiot, these are some sort of advanced breed of super-idiots from the future.
NBC kills another good show.
I agreed Trauma was a little boring and too over the top at times. But
I thought Mercy was very good. I enjoyed the story line with Veronica dealing with PTSD.
Such a shame.
I hope some other more intelligent channel picks up Mercy. NBC keeps the most stupid shows and cancelling the best shows. At least they should have decency of wrapping up the show before cancelling it. I bet they do have at least the “season finale” for this season. Bad karma, I don’t like NBC.
I love Mercy! This stinks!
OMG, another NBC show cancelled, I Loved MERCY it was my favorite show and to leave us hanging like that is just wrong…………. NBC I am beginning to believe the
Nothing But Crap is true. BRING BACK MERCY
Mercy should not have been cancelled. It was a great show and left the viewers who already loved it talking, which would attract even more people to watch. I am highly disappointed that it was cancelled and can’t believe we will never get to see how the characters (especially Veronica, Mike, and Chris’) lives unfold 🙁
Bring back Mercy. Please, best show on TV.
This up sets me i won’t be watching anything on NBC ever again…
Please bring back “Mercy” and advertise it more. Best show on TV. Looked forward to it all week. Very upsetting to hear about the cancelation.
Mercy was by far one of the better medical shows on TV! House is great, but getting a bit old. Miami Medical is stupid and very poorly written and acted.
BRING BACK MERCY! NOT ALL OF US ARE AS SMART AS A 5TH GRADER!
