At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

This is ridiculous!
Noooo. bring Mercy back!
I liked Mercy. I thought it was a good show and am really disappointed that it has been canceled – especially without a true final episode. I feel cheated by the network. Oh well…..
I thinks that some people just have to work and thats why they miss the t.v shows that are on like me I work at night so i can’t exactly watch it when it is on t.v so I have to watch it online. I think that they should try and find someway to trace the viewers that are online watching it too I’msure that there rating would be alot higher I really really really liked this show and I’m picky when it comes to the shows that I’m watching so nbc needs to get there heads out of there… Read more »
Bring Mercy back!!!
Why do you always cancel the best shows like Mercy???
Oh, and please, please get rid of the reality shows, they are an insult to our intelligent’s!
I fully agree!!!
“intelligent’s”
?
Gosh, I hope you’re being facetious.
I’m very upset that they canceled this show! Do they count the viewers who dvr the show in their ratings??
This was a good show. I always DVR the show and then watch it later or catch it on on-demand. Do they count that? I know alot of people who do the same. I dont feel that they gave it enough promotion, no one really knew about it. If they dont bring the show back I think they should ATLEAST do a Finale show where it puts an end to the story. It’s just nor fair to leave people hanging, I almost wasnt sure that the last episode was the season finale. I always looked forward to watching ……..I hope… Read more »
This was a great show, I always made sure I caught the episodes online because I couldn’t watch when it was actually on tv. When people do that, does that count towards people counted watching?? They did NOT give any promotion of this show, no one knew about it; I NEVER saw previews on tv during other shows. How can they judge how well it was liked when they never gave it a chance by promoting it like other shows???? I hope all the comments can persuade the higher ups to reconsider….its been done before….
Figures… Intelligent writing with deep, complex characters is extinguished. The brain candy like (insert typical sitcom clap trap here) will always get the ratings because there are more uneducated viewers than educated ones. I’ll sorely miss the show. The actors did a great job conveying what the writing staff wanted to portray as far as I could tell. Kudos to everyone involved in the show. I’m convinced that the cream always rises to the top…so I have no doubt everyone on the show will be working again soon. Just a shame to lose a great show because of poor timing… Read more »
I concur, well put I might add. There is no end to the amount of reality series they put out, but something with taste ….they say dump it.
This is so not fair! You bring in a show midseason to fill a hole, then don’t give it a chance to flourish. You have to have more than 1 season to establish a following! Give it another chance!!! You keep crap on like The Office & Parks & Rec and cancel a killer show like Mercy!!?? WTH? (Solely my opinion, not intended to offend anyone)
Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox now…
But u r right!!!
Bring Mercy Back!! At least give us an ending!!! How can you just end a show and cancel it without a finale! Bad form NBC! Next time I’ll make sure to watch ABC instead… they give me endings to my favorite shows!!
Please bring back Mercy. It was a great show both me and my husband watched it faithfully. If we did not watch it we taped it and watched it later.
Take off the reality shows.
BRING MERCY BACK!!!!!! i love this show and we need to know what happened to Mike and Dr Sands.
Don’t leave us hanging!!!
