At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

This is typical of ALL NBC SHOWS….. every time I get interested in a show, they cancel it!! No wonder they get no ratings, cause everyone knows all their shows only last a few weeks!!
Mercy was an excellent show, and I’m sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled:(
No one will watch ANY NBC shows, great job!!
Ditto to all the above! Mercy was an incredible show and NBC’s decision to cancel is another indication of just why that is the least watched network.
very disappointed that Mercy has been canceled i think that a lot of people were just getting into it, even my husband who does not watch that kind of show found himself very involved we had dvr every episode i hate to see it be canceled
Bring Mercy back!!! NBC now is your chance—husband dead and Verionica and Dr. Sands work together in Kuwait make it like the return of Mash?????
LORD HAVE MERCY
BRING BACK MERCY
Mercy is the best new show of the Season!!!!! I am very disappointed that this show will not be returning! This is a show that had all of my attention and I would never miss an episode. I even watched episodes multiple times!!! NBC you need to keep Mercy going! Don’t continue to keep letting your viewers down.
I am so not happy to hear that Mercy has been canceled. It came on when I was at church every week, but thanks to TiVo I NEVER missed an episode. I am a nursing student, and I LOVED the fact that it focused on nurses. It had it’s realistic side, but also tons of humor & drama. Also, the season finale?! …NOT a good way to end the show.
I’m done with NBC!! I will not start watching another new show on NBC and only stay with those that I have already been watching. No wonder NBC has terrible ratings as a network. I’m out.
My husband and I both watch Mercy and were NOT happy it’s ending.
I am very upset that Mercy is not coming back. It is one of my most favorite shows this season. I never missed it. Also, VERY upset that we will not find out who Vernica ends up with–her husband or Dr. Sands. It is a very gripping drama with a lot going on and wonderful acting. The addition of James Van Der Beek was a real plus and I was hoping this would attract more viewers. It would be wonderful if they would have a 2-hour movie that ties up the loose strings.
All these posts are wonderful.
Do you think anyone at NBC sees them?
And if so, does it make a difference ?
I’d like to think that it may make a difference. With any luck, they’ll read our posts and reconsider their decision to cancel the show. In my opinion, this is a big mistake on their part. They’re going to lose more viewers than they think. There is way too much reality TV these days. We need good dramas like Mercy to balance things out.
Like all the other people here have said…PLEASE BRING MERCY BACK!!! but at the LEAST finish it out and don’t leave us hanging thinking that veronicas husband could be dead along with the plane crash and what is gonna happen to chole is she gonna go to medical school?…and will the nurse be charged for that womans death…just bring us to a good close if you won’t give it another season!
I can’t believe that “Mercy” has been canceled. I love this show, and looked forward to seeing it every week. Like Shauna said “Can’t you at least have a wrap up show?
I am so sad to hear Mercy is off the air. I am a nursing student and this show was so realistic. I loved the cast, I loved the drama, humor, plot, characters, etc…I am an advid viewer of NBC but man have they really messed up TV in the last year, first Conan gets screwed, then Law & Order is leaving, and now Mercy…so sad. I Guess I’ll have to go to ABC to watch Grey’s Anatomy next season…
I cannot believe that after that finale Mercy was cancelled! Talk about a cliffhanger. I loved Mercy and cannot believe it is not coming back but to leave us hanging like that, cruel and unusual. At least tie it up with a two-hour wrap up show. Please!!!!!!!!!
