Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

It just seems odd to me that the series would end the way it did. If there were absolutely no chance that it would be back for a second season, then why wouldn’t it have simply ended with Michael being found, and everyone just being happily reunited…end of story.
But it had such an open-ended conclusion, so as to make a second season now necessary. To terminate the series with an ending like that would make absolutely no sense…at least not to me.
Another good one bites the dust!
This is a good show, great acting by GREAT actors and great locales! It looks like a Bond film! Our DVR is set to record every episode. If not for the DVR it would have been hard to find. I never see any advertising for it.
It is really a shame that such a good show is canceled. I hope that the powers that be find a way to give this show another chance. It is really very good and worth the effort!
PLEASE don’t cancel MISSING!! It’s one of the best shows on TV!! My husband and I love this show! I’m sick to death of this “18-49” demographic!!! What about the rest of us. We despise reality shows, and “MISSING” is action packed and interesting! Please reconsider and bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Am in the 18-49 demographic and love this show!!!! Maybe they should contact every home that has a tv and find out what people really do watch.
I love this show, please, if there is any way we can bring this back. BRING IT BACK!!!
Whoever made the final decision sucks……..apart from watching eyewitness news I can’t see myself watching anything else ABC decides to put on. Missing was the best show out, with a great cast. Something that most of the family can watch because it kept you guessing and coming back for more. I am sick to my stomach knowing that this show will not be back especially knowing how it ended. Please reconsider please……maybe try a different night…..please. We need shows that keep you on your feet sort of speak not the other garbage that is on tv. It’s frustrating knowing that… Read more »
Why the cliffhanger ending????????? This is a good series!! Try another time slot or night!!!!
This is a quality show with a great cast and interesting plots. I don’t understand why the ratings are so low – is it the competition? the time slot? I believe some shows just need some time (and promotion, which ABC hasn’t done well at all) to gain a larger audience. If ABC keeps adding so called “reality” shows (which I detest) I will have no reason to tune in. Come on, ABC, give this show another shot! Maybe with a better time slot?
We so agree with you on the reality shows my husband and I will have to stop watching ABC as well…..
It’s like I always say. Heck with the over fifty or people who like intelligent shows. They only worry about the 18 to 49 demographic. You notice the music on a lot of the shows, aimed at the 30 and below.
Why did you cancel this show? I blame the network for putting it up against American Idol. There are other days besides Thursdays you know. Myself and a lot of my friends watch it faithfully and then discuss it the next day..My friends are totally pissed that you cancelled it. I think that I am mad enough that I won’t watch anything on your net work. If you have a heart you will bring it back. Upset fan of Missing. Dodie
The show was one of the best. The acting was phenomenal, and the plot kept me in suspense. Please try another time slot and bring it back.
Huge bummer. Totally hooked on the show!
This is my favorite show on TV. What are you thinking cancelling it! I think it is the networks fault for putting it up against American Idol. There are other nights besides Thursday you know. I have lots of friends who watch the show and are truly disappointed in you decision. I just may not watch anything on your network. Way to go …unset fan. Dodie
I love this show and think it shows a woman who is smart, skilled, and physically extraordinary..
Hate to hear that Missing has been canceled…We loved it and watched it faithfully….Best show on TV in a long time. Give viewers something worth watching instead of all the trash that is on TV.
We watch MISSING faithfully each week since the pilot. Why would an intelligent, fast-paced action series not be popular??? Ashley Judd a well respected big screen actress is phenomenal & the cast work so well together. If the ratings were doing poorly the powers that be should have selected another night & timeslot. Many a times it is not the show doing poorly & it is just too many programs on at the same time. I have that problem with many programs & have to either watch reruns or online. You cannot get accurate ratings because many people also have… Read more »
