Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.
Moonlight’s series finale is set to air this Friday, May 16th. Stay tuned! 
I think that Sci-fi should pickup the series. I mean it has ghost hunters and that is mainly the only place you can see ghost hunters. It sucks that they leave you hanging like that. They should at least if there is no way of bringing it back make an epilogue episode.
Moonlight is awesome. Its just a shame that my family watches every night but it does not even play anymore. WE LOVE MOONLIGHT! We are Fans of the TV Drama Moonlight

I am very, very upset that moonlight will not be back. It was my most favorite tv show. I do not watch much tv, but never missed an evening of moonlight. Why when there is finallly a good program on, does it get cancelled. I hate the reality shows, and I will not watch the program that has replaced moonlight. a surprising number of people are still under the impression CBS is bringing it back …that might be the reason for the lack of panic or postings. till about four days ago i didnt know they werent gonna bring it back.. i heard they were gonna make a movie but changed their minds…then i heard they were gonna bring it back..even saw some commercials on CBS for it a number weeks ago…I hadnt thought anything about the possibility of it not comming back since seeing those commercials. but now me and everyone in my family is confused and very upset.… Read more »
you know i think they are right moonlight is a very good show but has few followers still.cuz there’s only like 205 comments when its supposed to be more than that and its been a long time since it got cancelled this just proves that moonlight wasnt a hit at all .dont get me wrong i love moonlight but lets face the fact………………..
here in the uk moonlight was a real big smash hit we need all the Qs answered and need the total escapism of this programme it was great to chill out to at the end of a busy week
just came on here 2 check wen moolight was gona b bac on can belive ther not doin the 2nd series i even got all my family watchin it on tv on demand and still watch ot over again myself come on bring bac moonlight
I’m a die hard twilight fan and I loved moonlight. I have told so many people about this T.V show then I found out that season two was cancelled what a bunch of crap. All the T.V network cares about is reality T.V and money not about the T.V show’s that people do enjoy. PLEASE bring it back.
OK, does CBS not know about the recent vampire phase everyone seems to be going through? They should have ran with this show! I was flipping through channels and found Moonlight on the Sci-Fi network. I didn’t stop watching the show until I had seen ALL the episodes. You can’t just leave loose ends like they did. The math is simple. Knockoff concept + terrible writing + bad ratings = well-deserved cancellation.
Please bring Moonlight back….I know so many people that will watch..I got them hooked on re-runs on the SciFi channel…CW???? I really miss it.
