Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

It’s ten million times better than Twilight, and it was just getting really really good! I am so sick and tired of shows getting canceled, because they’re always the best ones, and all the crappy, unimaginative stuff stays on the air. What’s the point of TV if everything that’s being shown now is sub-par???

In the light of the sucess of Twilight and True blood with their cult followings..why not take a chance.There is a market-just needs better advertising and also needs airing in England.Every Vampire fan needs a fix inbetween film sequels such as new moon and nearing end of series such as true blood.

OMG no more Moonlight – cannot believe it! Mick St John is a Vampire God! Please Please bring it back – it is sooo much better than everything else on TV . Have been waiting for Season 2 and to find it cancelled am absolutely gutted.

I am very sad because now to watch my new favorite show i have to buy it. I know many of my friends who just heard of it then u cancled it. So i disagreee more people would of gone and watched it if you kept it!
I can’t believe you cut this show!!! This is the best vampire drama EVER!!!! and I’ve seen them all. The story is original, Alex “Mick” is hot and his ladies are hot as well. “Beth” does an amazing job and there is a TON of sexual tension between them. For those of you new Alex O’laughlin fans check out the movie on netflix “Oyster Farmer” you get to hear Alex talk in his native Australian accent and see a very provocative underware scene as well as a totally nude sex scene! OH!!! I’m french and in France we have been watching just two episodes, it was a bad audience and i had to download the others! It’s the best movie since “Buffy contre les vampires” in your language “Buffy the vampire slayer”, sorry for my english but i’m very sad…. the special effects are better, the story is very attractive, the Love Story is original like the other science fiction films!!

I thought the second season is going to be coming up anytime soon…you guy disappointed me. I was so patient waiting for it to screen up on my TV and you said it’s cancelled…there’s probably many fans out there that’s been waiting for this season to come out…all you did was to abandon us.

I saw this on a tv channel in spain and i was hooked every morning for the whole week i was there. I downloaded the 1st season when i got home and i bloody loved it. i got so hooked most evenings were spent watching the season. Bring the next season out cbs!!!
Im from montreal canada and i saw one of moonlight episode last week at mystery chanel im french but i didnt care that there was no translation its so well done that i went to rent the whole season the next day and i watch it in 2 days . I just hit the last episode and i am so mad that the second season has been cancelled i hope the peoples from cbs are gonna fall on our msg and canceled there cancellations !!
In Turkey, me and most of my friends also following moonlight, we got very dissapointed when we heard that series been cut, looking forward to hear good news….

Well what can I say? Other than CBS shouldn’t have canceled moonlight. I live in the UK and don’t even get the channel, but when my friend in USA told me about this series, I watched on the internet and bought when I couldn’t watch some of the episodes. This was the best vampire series I’ve watched since Buffy and angel. True blood was a bit pointless and Twilight was good but moonlight kicked its ass.
