Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

I also just discovered Moonlight for the first time – I am so upset to find out that it had already been canceled. It’s a great show – I wish they would re-think it and bring it back.

You cant just let the second season go down the drain. If your not going to put it on tv than at least make it on DVD so others can see what happens to Beth and Mick St. John, also to the rest of the gang. Please for everyone.

I think thatMoonlight is very inspiring . It inspired me a lot . At first I didn’t watch TV serials at all . But after moonlight it changed . I would like to be inspired again by moonlight . So please bring it back .
well i thing it was a great show….. but the vampire diares was the best so they better wait and than bring a seasen 2 because with so many vampires storry one has to be the best and i would have to say that vampire diares was the best ever the actin the storry and the actor there are n1
What else can I say than I want season two! Moonlight is way better than Twilight or True blood etc. Only the name is bit crappy, but everything else is perfect.

Honestly maybe when the show was cancelled if a second season was aired it might not have had the necessary results ; however, with the new vampire craze in this day and age I think it would be a major hit and poor judgment NOT to take a chance on a second season. The acting was good, the chemistry was definitely there and it played to an older genre of vampire fans. I really liked your comment,….I am Hungarian born Us citizen,…living in Hungary,….it is amasing,…I turned on the TV at the very beginning of the first episoda,…watched faithfully all of them until lats nights last episode,…..Looking into
the possible news about a secont season today,….whatever they analyse at CBS,…even if we are only a handful of audience….we love the show…Do you think day take” all of us “into account(reactions in Europe,),..or only US audiences count ????We’ll see….It would be nice to see their mind changed …..let me know if you have any news….

ive just discovered moonlight because i was looking for a new series on the CW and they were putting it on there… then when sonme basketball team won on a thursdasy, they didnt even bother to put it back on… i was surprised to find it online and watched all of it and finished watching it tonight. the story line is amazing and the actors are awsome. its great cuz we dont really know any of these actors so it makes the show all the more interesting. i was looking up ”preview for season 2 moonlight” on google and to… Read more »

I agree. We definitely need season 2. I read some news that season 2 is allready done, but it’s hasn’t come out of tv. WHY?! I’m not sure if that news is true, but however, I’m sure there is a lot of fans for this show in USA. And so is here in Finland. In Finland, Moonlight is coming out of tv as we speak.
