Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

Ahmm… this is just a suggestion since i just finished watching Moonlight… Can’t they make a movie for the closure of the series? it is really disturbing because you kind a wonder what will happen next… If you are afraid to bring it back as a Series… please make it as a Movie… I am sure many fans would love that.. I watched some episodes on TV last week this show rocks! Was very dissappointed when I went to order the season to see that it’s been cancelled. Please bring this back, please.
Yeah, i watched this show, it was completely amazing! If I knew the seasons were going to go on, I’d watch them! I hate vampire shows, but this one was REALLY good.
You guys are insane to get rid of this show, all your other shows haven’t done overly that great… This one could have gone far!
it was amazingly refreshing to see a vampire series where the lead didnt sparkle, where it wasnt some teeny girl movie, and where the main character had his mean streak.
I would be interested in a season two, and I can speak for a few thousand people in panama as well… they would love it.

Have you ever felt that you are on a road heading somewhere and yet nowhere? This is what is happening now. I really roamed up and down in Nairobi town streets to see if i can find season 2, but the answer was season 2 has not yet been released. Why? I need it back please it’s feeling is itching the whole of my body. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssssssssseee release the next season.
i love this show! it stopped playing the reruns in the middle of the season so i had to watch it on youtube,but they have to make a second season…its just not right ftheydont) its waaaaaay better than the sparkling *** called twilight. ( no offense to anyone who likes it, sadley i used to be a big fan)i rely hope they decide to come with a second season cause all my friends like it…and thats alot of people so they cant tell us noone likes or watches it cause alot of people do
I loved the show!! i watched it on DVD and was excited about finding the second season but when i found out that it was canceled i got upset. I mean it was a good decent series that i enjoyed and wouldn’t mind showing to my nephew or younger brother. i don’t understand why decent shows are always cut
OK so i just found this show because it was on syfy and i just finished the whole season but i was disappointed because tthey left a huge cliff hanger i mean come on there are so many different questions i want answered and i want more. Please CBS get the show back on air and start season 2
Moonlight was lame as f *ck> First off you have Alex OLame-o-fling who can’t act for sh *t! Kinda pissed that they will never make a season two now with all the Twilight fans I’m sure the series would explode with fans. But what’s done is done. Maybe a different series (True Blood hated that series) will come along with a more awesome plot I love the whole Private Investigator vampire deal. That is what really caught my attention with this series. It’s not as lame as CSI because theres always a supernatural plot to it.

I totally agree it was an amazing season they should of been proud or themselves and eventhough they didn’t have. Many viewers in somewere like America there might of been tones more in another country all I’m saying is please give it another go. I’m begging u 🙁
Hummm, A vampire falling for a human. Sounds rather familiar don’t you think. Too bad It was cancelled. I guess Twilight picked up where Moonlight left off. And, so far, has made millions. Too bad so sad for CBS. Major fubar there, big guys. Bet you’re kicking some asses right about now on that stupid call. What is it about hinesight? I hardly watch CBS anymore. yes,… i agree… i saw the first and only season of moonlight,. i loved it!! i was expecting a second season! (whats the reason, when we find a good tv series, they just last one season and then they cancelled them!!!??)
I watched moonlight on DVD two weeks ago, and really enjoyed it.
But I was disappointed to find out that it was cancelled. Please bring the show back…I’am sure my fellow Papua New Guineans would love to see the moonlight series back.
