Though things were looking good for a second season of CBS’ vampire show, Moonlight has been cancelled. The show has loyal followers, the ratings were decent, and the series often won its timeslot. What happened?
Essentially Moonlight has been cut for a number of reasons. The rest of the network’s schedule is quite strong in the ratings and it certainly makes no sense to cancel one of the stronger series. If Moonlight were on the ratings-challenged CW, it certainly would have been renewed.
Like Jericho last season, Moonlight has a devout but small audience. Unfortunately, CBS’ decision to resurrect Jericho didn’t work out so well for them. Though many campaigned to get Jericho renewed, fewer people tuned in. CBS likely feels a bit burned by that experience and is reluctant to go down that road again.
The cancellation also stems from the fact that CBS is feeling very confident about their new batch of drama pilots. They’ve given a greenlight for four new dramas this fall and there just wasn’t any room left on the schedule for Moonlight. They know that Moonlight’s audience is unlikely to grow very much and would rather take a chance on a new show.
There’s been much upheaval behind-the-scenes and it’s been reported that the network hasn’t been impressed with the show’s creative development. The ratings were also usually lower than both its lead-in (Ghost Whisperer) and lead-out (Numb3rs).
CBS has given the okay for another season of The Unit. With the network’s full schedule, the drama will likely end up being bumped from Tuesdays and end up on Fridays in Moonlight’s old slot.

Bring this show back!!! I cannot believe you canceled this show. I agree with stormy. The nurwork needs a swift kick to have some sence knocked into them. This show was fresh and authentic.
If cbs had half a brain cell they would lose one or 8329 of it’s “reality” shows and bring back Moonlight. People say it didn’t have a big following but less popular shows have way fewer viewers and they’re still on the air. It wan’t ratings that took Moonlight off the air, it was behind the scenes politics between the nutwork and the creators. The nutwork wanted to make it into another *YAWN* csi show. Don’t we already have about a million of those? Branch out CBS, otherwise your ratings are going to continue to fall.
hi i just wanted to say that moonlight should be brought back i have not been able to watch it but from the clips on line that i have seen i definitely would cry if it was not brought back. what happens to mick and Beth do they go on do they part does mick find a permanent cure does Beth decided she can accept eternal life? i would definitely tune in to watch it!
Ghost whisperer sucks…. they should bump that. love-hewitt’s performance is atrocious and they only pick her because she is famous, but thats it. She rocked when she was younger but now… ugh… Anyways. MOONLIGHT CBS are you NUTS!…. great idea, very good actors… and I was holding my breath for what was going to happen next considering the finally. You are in for a massive breakdown if those new shows don’t turn out as they should, They probaly are good but you should have considered other shows to remove… like ghost whisperer perhaps.
I have been watching for the new season because I just knew this was a keeper. I love this show and know of other devoted fans. I am very disappointed and will miss it.

i hate this kind of movies with vampire monster and stuff like that because they are sucky without any point – but a friend made me watch 1 episode of this movie and i like very much ! MAKE SEASON 2 PLZZZ this is 1 of my favorite tv-series… it has little viewers because little % like movies with this topic but when they see movie they want watch coz it nice – make movie more popular and u get A LOT of FANS!!! idiots…tctc
I really can’t believe they cancelled it. A friend of mine told me at my job ’cause she knew I was a big fan of that show. I just had to make sure by seeing it on many sites. God you people make no sense. How can you cancel such a great show? Not enough viewers? Please. Mick is the sexy Vampire all the girls need in their life and you take it away from us? Well, it would seem as if CBS has managed to step into the dung pile once again by taking a show that has and was developing a strong following. Don’t you studio excs. get it? i agree with everything that everybody said. i am a middle aged women that sits at home on friday nights and that is the highlight of my night, i am madly in love with mick. please don’t take that away from me.
