The second season of Mozart in the Jungle was just released on Amazon on December 30th. Star Gael Garcia Bernal recently spoke with Indiewire about why he took the role, season two, and what he’d like to see in a season three.
Garcia Bernal plays Rodrigo de Souza, a new, renegade conductor at the New York Symphony.
Speaking to Indiewire, Bernal said if there’s a season three, they can explore more areas of the classical music world. Already, the show has expanded from just the New York City classical music scene. In season two, the series takes a trip to Mexico City, Garcia Bernal’s own hometown.
Garcia Bernal, on a possible third season:
Well, I mean this time we toured Latin America. Definitely, we need to tour all the world. We need to tour Europe. I would love to– There’s many worlds of music that we haven’t touched. We haven’t done Bach. And that’s complicated. Bach is a world of surprises. And we haven’t done Chopin. We haven’t done many of the Baroques, who are very complicated. And we haven’t done opera. So, maybe.”
Additionally, he mentioned the show hasn’t even touched upon Chamber music or focused on a single pianist—all possible subjects for a future season:
And still from the classical time or the romantic time…I mean the neo-classical…there’s just so much that we haven’t done. We’ve tried to have a piano concerto but then we changed it to a violin concerto. We haven’t done a pianist. And that’s going to be interesting as well. … I’m just thinking stuff. There’s so many ways to go still. So many ways to go. Chamber music, as well. We haven’t done it. It’s always nice to have four instruments. Five instruments.”
All 10 episodes of season two are currently available on Amazon.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Mozart in the Jungle? Have you started watching season two? What would you like to see happen in a third season?
Amazing show with so much good classical music. I wish the episodes would be longer because I feel the time fly while watching each one of it. Beautiful show and I look foward to many more seasons.
Amazon I think you have a hit on your hands! The acting and music is superb. Please season 3 ASAP!!!
A few days ago I stumbled across this series and my wife and I have been watching it for several days and just completed season 2 a few minutes ago. We both absolutely love it. It is so very unique as well as entertaining. I know that I must have told at least 15 of my friends about it and asked them to at least try it as I believe after watching 1 episode they will be hooked as we are
Please Please Please produce more seasons of this amazing show.
My wife and I have fallen in love with the show. I stumbled across it a few days ago and as of the 10 minutes ago we have completed watching all 20 episodes.I believe this is one of the most unique, wonderful shows I have ever seen. You MUST continue and expand the series.
Can’t wait for season 3, really well made show! Loved it
The show is fresh and pleasant to watch. The third season is a must do!
Must have a 3rd season, and 4th and 5th! So much to develop, the music and the player’s relationships. Great show. One of the best I have seen in a long while!
Yes, absolutely warrants at leastba 3rd season! Great show.
I love it. I played the oboe in two different times in my life and I love the idea of having a modern series based on an orchestra. Please do a third season.
Absolutely amazing! This cannot end now. There is not a weak character anywhere. Gael Garcia Bernal is brilliant – I know a guy like his character – a conductor. I blasted through both seasons in 3 nights. This story is not over. This cannot end now.
Yes Amazon. Please do renew! If you want to stay competitive with Netflix you have to have something with your mark on it that is a little different and quality. It would be a shame for this show to be ended. It would be nice to see either 10 – 45 miinute episodes of 20 episodes of the same length. These seasons are too short! Thank you.
Binge watching season two. Love this series! Bring on season 3!
I just binged both season 1 and 2 and I loved it! I definitely want to see more. Thanks Amazon.
Loved every minute binged for two days and could have done two more. It is hard to find a series that holds attention as this without all the violence and disfunction. Please continue!!
I love this show! Please, please don’t cancel!
