Tonight, TBS kicks off the fourth season of the My Boys sitcom. Will it be back for a fifth season? Some of the actors expect it be cancelled but TBS doesn’t agree — not yet anyway.
My Boys revolves around sportswriter Penelope Jane “PJ” Franklin (Jordana Spiro) who has several close friends that are mostly guys. They include her brother Andy (Jim Gaffigan), competing sportswriter Bobby (Kyle Howard), DJ Brendan Dorff (Reid Scott), commitment-challenged Mike (Jamie Kaler), socially inept Kenny (Michael Bunin), and Stephanie Layne (Kellee Stewart), a fellow female writer.
The show began in November 2006. It was successful enough to be renewed for seasons two, three, and four but TBS only ordered nine installments each time. Anticipating a cancellation this time around, several in the cast have found other work, or at least they’ve tried to.
Co-star Jim Gaffigan has already left the show and won’t be in the nine episodes of season four. He’s reportedly spending more time on his stand-up career. Tonight’s season opener explains that Andy’s job has sent him to China and PJ has a hard time replacing him in the weekly poker game.

After filming season four, both Spiro and Howard signed on for new NBC series. Spiro secured a role in Love Bites and Howard landed one of the lead roles in Perfect Couples. Unfortunately, both had to later bow out. Though it seems very likely that My Boys is finished, TBS is unwilling to say that yet and is holding the actors to their contracts.
As a result, NBC felt they had to replace Spiro and Howard in their projects. If, as expected, TBS does cancel My Boys, they’ll have lost two jobs.
Scott is a little luckier. He was hired for a recurring role on a new dark comedy series for Showtime, The Big C. Scott is still under contract to My Boys but, because of The Big C’s production schedule and his role is a recurring one, he’ll be available in the unlikely event TBS wants season five of My Boys.

My Boys is funnier, better written and speaks to being passionate about your work and personal relationships more than most other series I’ve seen. There are worse series being shown on several networks than My Boys. Would TBS please promote it better than they have been. 9 episodes a season isn’t enough to get viewers hooked either.
I love this show and want it to continue for many season. I have even downloaded seasons 3 and 4 onto my Iphone and watch them all the time. My Boys not only has a loyal following, but also brings a fresh perspective to Sexy. Its only problem is that its not on a bigger network, because they would have marketed it properly and would have seen more success.
I think Season 5 is a must at the very least. We need more, and we need time to prepare for the loss of our friends if we must lose them.
I have seen my boys since it first aired. I love it! I have been trying to figure out what happend to the show since the last episode aired. Now I know. Please bring it back. I felt connected to PJ because I myself grew up around boys. It is the realist show I have seen yet. I just thought that the seasons were to short and should have at least 15 episodes instead of 9. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

I love my boys it’s my life I grew up with boys n PJ is just like me girly yet we know stats I hope this show continues. I finally feel like people get those girls. I watch every episode
Love the show! I would love for it to have a season 5 and I believe that it should. If TBS would order more than 9 episodes and put it on a different night than sunday, the show would have a lot more viewers.
I’m a huge fan. No way is nine episodes a season enough! I want 22 per season, please.

I’ve been watching the show since it started and I would absolutely love to see a fifth season as long as everyone sticks around. However, this last episode ended really well, so if it doesn’t come back, I won’t be too upset. I’d rather see a great TV show end on a high note than run so long that it ends up beating a dead horse. I think this will be the last season. I love My Boys! I have watched every episode and fell in love with the relationship between the characters. Please, Please bring it back for a 5th season and order more than 9 episodes!
I hope that TBS doesn’t cancel the show. I love it. I have been watching it since 2006. They got a good group for a cast. This show reminds me of Friends, that is how good I think it is.
TBS is killing the show by only giving us and the actors 9 episodes a year. They’re cutting the show off at the knees, hurting their ability to gain a following with viewers and driving away the most talented and recognizable cast member in the process.
As much as I love this show and how “real” it is compared to other “glitzy” shows about a group of “friends”, I feel that this season will be the last. The way the plots heading (Bobby with a new career choice, Mike getting a real GF and make-over, Brennan moving out etc), it feels like the end is coming. And heck,the season finale episode is called “My Men”. Surely that’s a sign. Everybody has finally “grown up”. Please don’t bring back the show if It’s going to be missing people.
