Not long after the TV ratings came in for last Thursday night’s episode of My Generation, the show was cancelled by ABC. To the dismay of many viewers, the series was pulled from the schedule immediately and ultimately replaced by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy. Will viewers ever get to see the remaining episodes? How many are there anyway?
My Generation follows a group of twenty-somethings who were part of a documentary while in high school. Ten years after graduation, the filmmaker returns to see how their lives have changed. The ABC series stars Julian Morris, Keir O’Donnell, Kelli Garner, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Stahl-David, Anne Son, Daniella Alonso, Jaime King, and Sebastian Sozzi.
With such a large ensemble cast, you would think that many would comment about the cancellation. That hasn’t happened. For the most part, the stars have all been pretty silent, perhaps by request of the network and/or the producers. The one exception has been King. Earlier this week she tweeted, “Thanks to all for supporting My Generation! I hope there will be a way for all of u to see the rest of the amazing shows we made! Xx” Responding to a comment from an upset viewer, King commiserated, “it is frustrating sometimes.”
Shortly after the cancellation news broke, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen playfully tweeted to My Generation creator Noah Hawley, “condolences. we should have a beer and compare third episodes.” A few days later, Hawley responded by simply writing, “done.”
Hawley has offered brief updates on the show. On Monday, he wrote, “Saw most of the cast last night. My understanding is we’ll be finishing the 8 existing episodes for release online or DVD.” He later added, “We would say more, but it’s not our style.” Last night, Hawley indicated that discussions about releasing the six unaired installments were ongoing.
Considering the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly unlikely that the cast and crew were able to wrap up the show’s many storylines.
What do you think? Would you like to see the remaining episodes of My Generation? Would you consider buying a DVD of the series? Would you like the producers to hear about what would have happened?

I’m a Baby Boomer and loved “My Generation.” It seemed real enough and relevant. The abrupt cancellation is very disappointing.
What?!? Cancelled?!? Why??? I am so mad this series is being cancelled!!! Obviously the network doesn’t know what people like me want to see on tv. It is a much better sitcom that all of the forensics programs and reality shows that I am sick of watching. It was something I could relate to.
This was my new favorite show. Why is it always the quality shows that get cancelled? Poor job, ABC.
I am so sick and tired of these old grey hair men who make this quick decissions without waiting to see if the show gets a following or develop the characters, it takes time for the audience to follow the characters i.e. learn the names, connections etc. I wish there was a face-book page where people can join to SAVE MY GENERATION! I woulxd sign up in a heart beat. This is one of the reasons why I don’t watch television as much as I use to. Yes I will buy the DVD so at least I can get some… Read more »
Is ABC serious? Two episodes and it gets axed? I was just getting ready to set my DVR to record it tonight and I couldnt find it in the listings. ABC’s website show My Generation as an active show and you are able to watch previous episodes and buy “My Generation” apparel and novelties. A google search of “Is My Generation cancelled?” yielded the results I was looking for. Im terribly disappointed in ABC’s decision. Why bother investing any time and effort to get involved in a new show that may actually interest me? Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice do… Read more »
We have to do something to stop these networks from cancelling show after only a few episodes or sometimes half of a season. This is ridiculous! What can we do?
Really disappointed…even though its against my principles…I would probably buy the DVD. Same with Lone Star. I was VERY into that !!!
I can’t believe it was canceled already!! I loved it! how can i see the other episodes?
Why would you cancel it? I’m soooo upset right now! I was really starting to like the show. Boo to you ABC!
I absolutely LOVED the show. I was addicted just after 1 episode. I am extremely disappointed and would have loved to see the stories play out.
I would love it if they released on DVD. I hate when a show gets cancelled with episodes in the can and you never get to see them. I prefer DVD or blu-ray release instead of online as I hate watching stuff on the pc–would rather watch on the tv from my couch.
I really dont understand why they canceled this show soooooooooo soon….. It’s crazy I loved that line up… I had that show then Grey’s… so you dont give it a chance but put reruns of Greys on instead?? Makes no sense…. Not happy with ABC right now… I enjoyed that show and would love to see more.
No, this is unacceptable. Screw a DVD or online. Finish da damn series! Im tired of networks offering great shows and dont give them a chance to grow. Its becoming very annoying and irritating. Finish the damn series and let us know how each of their lives turn out. Be forwarned network monkeys, the viewer will start to turn on you and go to other mediums for quality shows.
Why would cancelled this show? You didn’t even give it a chance, it was a Great show so far. Wonderful cast. It was hip and Fresh. WOW I’m disappointed ABC i really am!!!
ABC barely gave it a chance. Just starting to know characters. I.
I think it needs to have more chance.
