Not long after the TV ratings came in for last Thursday night’s episode of My Generation, the show was cancelled by ABC. To the dismay of many viewers, the series was pulled from the schedule immediately and ultimately replaced by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy. Will viewers ever get to see the remaining episodes? How many are there anyway?
My Generation follows a group of twenty-somethings who were part of a documentary while in high school. Ten years after graduation, the filmmaker returns to see how their lives have changed. The ABC series stars Julian Morris, Keir O’Donnell, Kelli Garner, Mehcad Brooks, Michael Stahl-David, Anne Son, Daniella Alonso, Jaime King, and Sebastian Sozzi.
With such a large ensemble cast, you would think that many would comment about the cancellation. That hasn’t happened. For the most part, the stars have all been pretty silent, perhaps by request of the network and/or the producers. The one exception has been King. Earlier this week she tweeted, “Thanks to all for supporting My Generation! I hope there will be a way for all of u to see the rest of the amazing shows we made! Xx” Responding to a comment from an upset viewer, King commiserated, “it is frustrating sometimes.”
Shortly after the cancellation news broke, Lone Star creator Kyle Killen playfully tweeted to My Generation creator Noah Hawley, “condolences. we should have a beer and compare third episodes.” A few days later, Hawley responded by simply writing, “done.”
Hawley has offered brief updates on the show. On Monday, he wrote, “Saw most of the cast last night. My understanding is we’ll be finishing the 8 existing episodes for release online or DVD.” He later added, “We would say more, but it’s not our style.” Last night, Hawley indicated that discussions about releasing the six unaired installments were ongoing.
Considering the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly unlikely that the cast and crew were able to wrap up the show’s many storylines.
What do you think? Would you like to see the remaining episodes of My Generation? Would you consider buying a DVD of the series? Would you like the producers to hear about what would have happened?

Loved the show! Sad to see it end so abruptly!
I can’t believe this show was taken off the air so abruptly. I’m a 27 year old female who could strongly relate to these stories. It saddens me, I too, hope to be able to purchase this on DVD.
WHY DIDNT THEY TRY IT IN ANOTHER TIME SLOT FIRST? say dead Tuesdays? Who wants to seeGrey’s repeats instead of this new fascintaing show???!!! idiots jumped the gun.
I really enjoyed this show I can’t believe they actually canceled it after just two episodes I actually was beginning to think my DVR was acting up then I check up on the show and its gone? I really think the network should reconsider and put it back on the air and give the show an opportunity.
I agree with you on this! I thought my DVR was screwed up and then I did a search on it and found nothing!! I found out by doing a search on line for it!!
im so sick of good shows coming out and they take them off the air!! what is the deal ? come on, what a good idea and good story lines! please bring it back, i really liked it! we keep crap like wipeout and how to survive a japanese game show? give me a break! first jericho and now this?
im so upset they canceled my generation. i really liked the show. i love greys but i rather see my generation than repeats of another show, that sucks. bring it back or put it on dvd.
I was really getting to like this show, I just caught the episodes online and it is really disheartening that you would start a storyline and not finish it. These networks are a trip and they don’t realize how stupid it seems to pull a show off the air when they haven’t given it a chance to thrive. Very hasty decision I think and I do hope they make the other episodes available online or on DVD. I will buy it and watch it. The storie were so touching and goes to show how life can change in ways you… Read more »
I dont understand how the show can be cancled that soon; it was only the first 2 episodes!
I’m sure that Grey’s Anatomy first couple shows were rough. I can speak from experience because I never heard of Grey’s until the second season and now I own every season.
This cancellation is very upseting and surprising. As a resident in Texas I appreciated the setting of the storyline; finally something thats not filmed in Cali….
I really liked that show!!! besides, brenda is one of my favorite actresses. it had such a good plot, and so many things could’ve happened, I really wanted to see what came next! it should continue to air!!!!!
I really enjoyed the show. Sad to see it go so soon 🙁
Can’t believe this show was cancelled. Just when we were getting into it!
How ridiculous can these networks get? A new series that was decently written and presented in an interesting format is cancelled after only two epsodes air. I guess it may have cost more to produce than the inane reality garbage that permeates the airwaves, so the network had no problem shutting it down before it had any chance to build an audience. Oh well, it’s back to cable and PBS for me. Those seem to be the only places to find compelling programming.
I really liked this show, this is sad news. I had gotten into the first two episodes and was really interested to see where the story lines were going. I hope they release the remaining episodes on DVD so we can watch a little more.
I was getting into the story line and then you take it away! That’s why I never get into shows until they’ve been on for a yr or two because the networks take things away! It sucks.
I am so sad! I really enjoyed this show! I think it should continue to air!
