Last season, the NBC schedule had a few ratings successes but the peacock network had a lot more misses. How will their shows do this time around? Which will be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.
NBC shows this season (so far): America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior, Aquarius, Better Late Than Never, Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, The Biggest Loser, The Blacklist, Blindspot, The Carmichael Show, Caught On Camera With Nick Cannon, Crowded, Dateline NBC, Dateline: On Assignment, Game of Silence, Grimm, Heartbeat, Hollywood Game Night, Heroes Reborn, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Little Big Shots, Maya & Marty, The Mysteries Of Laura, The Night Shift, The Player, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Shades Of Blue, Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge, Superstore, Telenovela, Truth Be Told, Undateable, The Voice, and You, Me and the Apocalypse.
There’s lots of data that NBC execs look at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Happy Grimm is back. Hopefully for more than 13 episodes.
Undateable (cancelled)*
The executive producers say it hasn’t been cancelled so it’s been removed from this list.
If it wasn’t for bringing Heroes back, I never would have watched Superstore. There is absolutely nothing else to watch on NBC. Superstore is awesome!
PLEASE KEEP GRIMM……. IT IS THE ONLY THING WORTH WATCHING ON FRIDAY……I AM SO OVER REALITY SHOWS….NOT AT ALL INTERESTED IN CELEBRITY SHOWS….PLEASE KEEP GRIMM A SHOW WE CAN ACTUALLY USE OUR BRAIN TO WATCH. THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT.
PLEASE DON’T CANCEL GRIMM!!, is the only show on t.v. that my husband and I enjoy, we always look forward to the new season, plus is different, i am sick of hospital, cops, and stupid shows like 2 broke girls, that they still on.
Grimm is coming back for at least 13 episodes. Next season will probably be it unless the ratings soar, and they didn’t soar this year.
Mysteries of Laura is a GREAT show. The twist at the end was a complete SHOCKER. Please don’t cancel this show!
I completely agree! This is one of the few shows worth watching. I especially appreciate that doesn’t depict women as idiots.
AND it portrays a “real woman” not all fancied up in spike heels! It’s ridiculous they are considering cancelling this show. It’s terrible.
What’s TERRIBLE is its PATHETIC ratings of a 1.11 for 16 episodes or a 1.12 from TVBTN. This show is AWFUL. NBC wouldn’t have thought twice about cancelling a show with ratings this bad in the past. If it didn’t have Debra Messing, whose acting has seen better days, it would be gone already. NBC loves her from Will and Grace, and is trying figure out a way to keep it viable. Former NBC executives are turning over in their graves right now at the thought of NBC renewing this debacle.
GRIMM for ever
Do not cancel Grimm. Only good show on Friday night.
Do not cancel Grimm. Cancel, Hollywood Game Night instead.
Should not cancel Gtimm. It is the only show worth watching from 8-9 pm.
Age group 60 plus. Too many Chicago shows on TV.
The only Chicago shows left out are; Chicago Gangs, Chicago Drugs , etc.
The only show on Friday night worth watching. Age over 60.
We all, could do with less ( Chicago) shows. The only Chicago shows left out are; Drugs of Chicago, Murders of Chicago, Gangs of Chicago. Strippers of Chicago.
Too bad that their cancelling Grimm, it is a excellent show with great acting and great writing. Sorry, that they only count people from 18 to 49. The time is also not great with such strong shows like blue bloods and Hawaii-five-o on cbs.
The fact is that Mysteries of Laura should be renewed: it has the fifth HIGHEST viewership of any NBC scripted series. The second season finale had the HIGHEST viewership in a year. This is NOT a dying show! Few if any series have as capable a cast throughout.
I agree 100% Jerry! It’s a GREAT SHOW! Ridiculous to cancel it. I bet they are paying the stars too much and aren’t putting enough in their pockets.
The cast, supporting and starring is EXCELLENT.
Unfortunately for you, the show average for 16 episodes was a 1.12, which was WORSE than last season, and RATINGS MATTER! if it’s true that NBC offered to move the show to Cable and Debra Messing refused to let it be moved, then this is on HER! Thank goodness it’s GONE! FINALLY!
That’s not very nice.Debra Messing is incredible. The Mysteries of Laura did not have the worst ratings. This is all on NBC not Debra Messing.
I wish that someone involved with The Voice would take the time to look at the onslaught of negativity there has been since the decision to bring Miley Cyrus on as a Coach. On every site I have looked at it has been about 1 person ok with it to 75 against and feel they can no longer watch the show. Including myself. It was difficult enough to remain a fan when Christina was brought back especially since she has not achieved any success in the last 10 years, it seems and odd choice but in her day she was… Read more »
I really enjoy watching Mysteries of Laura. I hope that it is renewed for season
