ABC had high hopes for Off the Map, their new medical drama from veteran producers of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Unfortunately things didn’t go as planned and ABC has now cancelled Off the Map after one season on the air.
Off the Map follows the lives of six doctors who have “lost their way” and have traveled to a remote South American jungle to try to rediscover why they wanted to become physicians.
The TV series’ cast includes Caroline Dhavernas, Jason George, Jonathan Castellanos, Mamie Gummer, Martin Henderson, Rachelle Lefevre, Valerie Cruz, and Zach Gilford.
The TV series premiered to a disappointing 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.57 million viewers. The show won its timeslot but was disrupted in some parts of the country by coverage of the Tucson Memorial. As a result, ABC reran the premiere Off the Map the following night.
For whatever reason, subsequent episodes of Off the Map essentially drew fewer and fewer viewers each week. The final episode of the season hit a series low and attracted a very poor 1.3 rating in the demo with only 3.80 million viewers.
Despite having some very passionate fans, Off the Map ended up being one of the lowest dramas on ABC. It’s no surprise then that the network has now decided against ordering a second season, cancelling the show. All 13 episodes have aired and we likely won’t find out what became of the young doctors left in the jungle.

I am very disappointed that there will be no season two!!!! I was looking forward to it! I wish the decision to cancel the show would changed. Even though there are many doctor/hospital drama shows out to all viewers; I still enjoyed watching this show and looked forward to it every month! Besides leaving all viewers hanging to guess what happened next really stinks! LOL, maybe if there are enough people writing about not to cancel the show and giving it one more season will help.. Not sure, but you have my vote.. Ya, on one more season!!! 🙂
As usual instead of trying a different timeslot ABC bails on a show that had decent writing and lots of promise. They touched on decent topics and were introducing what thingsbare like in underprivileged countries.
I love, love, love this show. Do the people at ABD know what they are doing? They say the ratings were low?????? Did they think about investing some time in advertising, make sure people even know that the show exists. I came across it by accident and fell in love with the show. I mean look at that cast. The writing was fantastic. It was a great show. What are the people doing at ABC????? Isn’t that the same network that cancelled Men In Trees. Get it together ABC, pull your head out of your#$$!!!!
I am very disappointed that Off the Map has been cancelled. The show was great as it dealt with the personal lives of the doctors and was not just another medical show. The actors were excellent and the story lines were so different. Please reconsider.
Absolutely LOVE!!!!!!! this show it is fantastic so sick and tired of crap like greys anatomy and other stupid medical shows that eventually end up being all about their sex lives than anything else, its mind numbing crap and you finally bring out a medical drama thats choice about real doctors and their faults set in the most amazing and refreshing setting with stories and cases you would never see in a city hospital that makes this show so interesting. Please, Please??? Try it in another time slot or whatever it takes! It was such a refreshing break from reality shows, emergency rooms & fake characters. At least the characters of “Off The Map” admitted their shortcomings. Again, Please!
Please don’t tell me it’s true! They aired the show here in Sweden and we just loved it!!! We hope they’ll reconsider, and start making it again because we need to know what’s going to happen to the people in the show!
i loved this show. have waited on the 2nd season, i can’t understand why all the good shows get cancelled and all the dang reality shows are still running. it seems that all tv is gonna be in the end is reality shows. come on people. get with the program. the reality shows are rediculous….

Just loved this show. Probably on too late for most workers but I used to tape it. Unfortunately now we just have far too many reality shows with people blubbering about who cheated on who or who pissed somebody off about something so trivial it is sickening. As you can see I am pretty shallow but I just love shows like ‘off the map’.
I have been waiting for the next season as this was about the only show ABC had last season that I would watch.
I am very disappointed that ABC has cancelled Off The Map, without giving it a second chance. It might, as another viewer suggested here, have done better in the ratings if the time slot had been shifted, rather than pulling the plug on the whole show. I thought it was well written, well acted and it was refreshing to see a medical drama set in such an exotic location. Too bad the network jumped the gun!
I think it is the network’s fault it flopped. I had never heard of it until I ran across it at the end of the season. I’m ticked it’s not coming back.
