It’s all over but the bleeding. Executive producer Julie Plec has announced The Originals TV show will end with season five on The CW. Writer Carina MacKenzie recently confirmed there will be 13 episodes in what we now know to be the fifth and final season. “Many shows are not lucky enough to have a hand in deciding when the end has come…. Ending a show is always bittersweet, but for me, it’s a true blessing to be a part of making that choice,” Plec wrote.
A spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, which ended its eight season run earlier this year, The Originals is a supernatural drama following the Mikaelson family. They’re the world’s original vampires and are trying to reclaim New Orleans. The CW cast includes Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Yusuf Gatewood, and Riley Voelkel.

The fourth season of The Originals averaged a 0.32 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 940,000 viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 15% and up by 1%, respectively. Find out how The Originals stacks up against the other CW TV shows.

I hated to see this series cancelled. You had a lot of strong characters that could have developed into some amazing story lines.
I think lack of marketing hurt this show.
WoW , between all the time they spent setting up future possibilities with this show, and how much of what is already happening in this show is still in it’s infancy I kinda feel like this is a huge slap in the face followed by a middle finger to the shows’s fans. They will have to rush to finish up the story in 1 season, because no 1’s story was anywhere near being finished. yes I don’t think it’s time to stop the originals it’s just getting good. This is a great show!
I thought this was a much more mature version of Vampire Diaries? It had some ups and downs but was so rich with material left to discover and uncover (pun intended). The characters were well developed and there was never a doubt that one of the things bound to happen is someone acting of of character. I think this show could easily have rebound and gone a number of directions. If it must end, please spare us true believers the under-thought ending all wrapped in a bow. Please don’t cancel Originals . Its one of the best shows for me . From the beginning to the end keeping us exciting to see what’s gonna be next . Pls reconsider cancelling the show .
The originals is the best after cancelling vampire diaries..They should put both worlds together …and A new show should be reunited from vampire diaries and the originals . Maybe the other side of true freedom.
Loved this show from day one and don’t want it to end. I will love it Always and Forever – please continue the great writing and have it on for many more seasons.

Sometimes when a TV series lasts for more than a few years, the story line gets weaker & cheesier each yr. (e.g. Friends, True Blood, Vampire Diaries) So far, I’ve enjoyed every season of the Originals & would love to see it continue past season 5 if the writers can maintain the high caliber of story/script.
