Tonight marks the season finale of NBC’s Parenthood. The ratings are down so will it end up being the series finale as well? Will the show be cancelled or return for a fourth season?
Parenthood debuted back in March of 2009 as a mid-season replacement series. The first season’s 13 episodes ended up averaging a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.38 million total viewers. The show was on the bubble but ended up getting renewed.
NBC didnt wait until mid-season to bring it back and season two kicked off in September 2010. With a full 22 episode season, the show’s averages dropped to a 2.1 in the demo and 5.34 million. Parenthood was on the bubble once again but, once again, it ended up being renewed.
This season, the ratings have dropped once again. The third season of Parenthood (not including tonight’s numbers) have averaged a 1.9 in the demo with 5.13 million. Based on the lower numbers at the start of the season, NBC only ordered 18 installments this time around.

Ordinarily, one would expect that Parenthood would be on the verge of cancellation once again. However, because the rest of NBC’s schedule is in such sorry shape, Parenthood’s ratings actually look pretty good by comparison.
Out of the 17 scripted programs that have aired on NBC this season, Parenthood has the sixth highest demo ratings, beating out shows like Community, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Grimm. On our NBC ratings report card, Parenthood registers a firm “B.”
Based on the season numbers and the fact that Parenthood is co-produced by Universal Television, NBC’s own production company, it’s almost guaranteed to be back for a fourth season.

Classy show, NBC needs more with this quality. Great producing team, wonderful cast, and it appeals to audiences of all ages. Subjects like family interactio, sex, alcoholism are all handled delicately and not in a heavyhanded way. Make it a perennial and help it build an audience.
Please continue Parenthood. It has been the highlight of my week since its beginning. It’s so nice to have something to watch other than reality shows and this one does such a good job of tastefully addressing current family issues. I love the interactions among family members and I feel the show’s writers do a great job of presenting relevant material while stressing the importance of family values.

I think this show is fabulous. I watch every Tuesday. I think it has made us very aware of the struggles and issues of autism – maybe even helped to get the insurance coverage so needed. I hate reality TV !

I love this show and have recorded and watched every episode/ I can’t believe the ratings are so low when it’s a great show about real family problems. There is so much “trash” on tv and way too much reality television. I can’t believe some of the junk they show to kids and then can’t decide to keep a good show.
This is my favorite show on NBC. I look forward to watch this every Tuesday night. I hope this show comes back for another season and even more after that. I’m tired of all the reality shows and would much rather watch Parenthood.

This show is one of the best on t.v. The cast does an amazing acting job and the story lines are ones that “real people” can relate to. This show always guarantees a good laugh and cry! I never miss an episode. Season 4 HAS to happen!
I really hope this show continues! My sister and I watch it every week and we bought the first two seasons on DVD. We couldn’t stop watching it, we literally didn’t have a life for about a week. The actors are amazing and the storyline is hilarious. It covers all ages so your bound to connect with someone. Coming from a broken home and now having no parents, this show reminds me how important family is and all the good times we had regardless of the circumstances. My whole family loves this show! One of my daughters got us hooked . Tuesday night was our “lets not make plans night!'” something for every age young and old. The acting and storyline topnotch. Not sure why people dont know about this show. Every show cannot be a reality show. Please keep this on. It is soooo worth watching.
The best show on televison by far. Love the cast and story lines and reality of the characters and acting. I hope they bring it back for another season and beyond.
