Fans of NBC’s Passions were understandably upset last January when the network announced that the steamy soap had been cancelled. A few months later, satellite provider DirecTV stepped in to “save the day” and made a deal to produce Passions for their exclusive Channel 101.
Unfortunately, many fans can’t subscribe to DirecTV due to economics or a variety of other reasons. When Passions leaves NBC on September 7th, there’ll be no way for them to follow the adventures of their favorite Harmony residents. Or will there?
Last night, DirecTV hosted the first of four half-hour shows called Passions LIVE!. Castmember Eric Martsolf (Ethan) hosted the program, chatted with Juliet Mills (Tabitha) and Heidi Mueller (Kay), and answered fans’ questions.
After the show, Eric spent about 10 minutes online with viewers. One fan asked if Passions would be available online. Martsolf responded, “DirectTV knows that you guys want to watch it online so they’re taking steps and they’re making efforts to make sure that it is broadcast online very, very soon.” (You can hear it for yourself at the 4:45 mark.)
This certainly doesn’t qualify as an official announcement about online viewing but it does gives hope that there’s some action going on behind the scenes. Though production of the show will ultimately be funded by subscriber revenue, DirecTV knows that everyone can’t subscribe. Hopefully, the number of people who have subscribed will be enough to make the venture worth their investment and keep the soap going for years to come — both via Channel 101 and online.

It’s a damn shame that Passions will no longer be on NBC. My got hooked by some friends back in my high school days back in 2002. It’s been a very popular show. in many of my inner circle. It’s hard to believe that a great network like NBC would let the show go and not consider putting it on the NBC Universal networks like USA, or Bravo or leaving the show on the Interent on NBC.com like they are about to do with this new show entitled coastal dreams. O k so it’s obvious that no one wants Passions to be just exclusively on Direct TV! I really do hope that it does go online. I can’t get Direct TV because my landlord won’t allow satellite’s to be put up in our building. I really do hope I can see it online. If they want ratings then post it online please!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN A BIG PASSIONS SUPPORTER!!! I LOVED IT SINCE IT STARTED!!! I AM SO UPSET THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO VIEW IT ONLINE… I KNOW I AM MISSING ALOT. BUT I CANT AFFORD THE DIRECT TV. My husband and I have watched PASSIONS since day one and always taped it to keep from missing a single episode. When we found out that it was switching to DTV we made plans to get a new tv and get DTV but found that we just can’t receive DTV at all. Please, please, please air it online so that we can continue to watch it.
I really just love Passions i loved it since it started i love all the actors they all seem really cool to know out side of their jobs. it really sucks that passions have moved to direct tv i am still trying to convince my husband we need to get it. So hopefully soon so i dont miss to much of the show. i just love all of you

it will be a great day when I can go on line to watch passions. I cannot believe that NBC pulled the plug to put on another hour of the Today Show. I watched it twice and well it just stinks. Needless to say that my channel 44 looks promising with all the Judge shows to entertain me oh and not to mention days of Our Lives and that is it for me with NBC.
I hope they do put it online because you can’t get direct tv here in Canada, at least not the part I live in.
I have also been watching Passions from day 1 and was taping it on DVD because I worked in the day time.
