Spike is developing the Pendergast TV series drama, with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions. The Walking Dead‘s Gale Anne Hurd is executive producing, with Black Swan‘s John McLaughlin, who is also set as writer. Sharon Levy, Ted Gold, and Lauren Ruggiero will oversee the project for Spike.
Based on the novels Relic and Cabinet of Curiosities by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Pendergast features Aloysius Pendergast, an eccentric FBI special agent. In the first season he will investigate a current crime that mirrors a century old mystery and is tied to his own family history.
Here is the press release:
SPIKE TV JOINS FORCES WITH PARAMOUNT TELEVISION, UNIVERSAL CABLE PRODUCTIONS AND “THE WALKING DEAD’S” GALE ANNE HURD TO DEVELOP NEW SCRIPTED SERIES
Dramatic Series “Pendergast” Based on Best-Selling Novels By Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
New York, NY, February 1, 2016 – Spike has teamed up with Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions to develop a scripted dramatic series, “Pendergast.” Award-winning and critically-acclaimed producer Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Entertainment (“The Walking Dead”) serves as Executive Producer, with John McLaughlin (“Black Swan”) set as the writer and Executive Producer.
Based on the bestselling novels “Relic” and “Cabinet of Curiosities” by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, the series centers around Aloysius Pendergast, an eccentric special agent with the FBI. Set in a contemporary version of gothic New York City, the first season finds Pendergast investigating a present day crime mimicking a century old mystery — which links to his own family’s dark past.
“Pendergast” represents the first collaboration between Spike and Paramount Television, both Viacom properties. It’s also the second co-production between Paramount Television and Universal Cable Productions with the first being the pilot “Shooter.”
Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Ted Gold, Senior Vice President, Scripted Original Series, and Lauren Ruggiero, Senior Director, Scripted Original Series will oversee the project for Spike.
Spike TV debuted its first scripted event series in eight years, “Tut,” last July to strong ratings and has recently ordered to series, “Red Mars” based on Kim Stanley Robinson’s award-winning “Mars Trilogy.”

Did you read the Relic and Cabinet of Curiosities novels? Do you like the sound of the Pendergast TV show? Do you plan to check it out, when it premieres on Spike? Tell us.
I’m thrilled to see the Preston & Child Pendergast series get a tv series! I have read all of the Pendergast books, and The Cabinet of Curiousities is one of their best! I’m looking forward to watching it.
I Have read all of the Pendergast novels and so has my father and my brother. We have been discussing how they should do a TV series involving Pendergast since the Diogenes trilogy. Who will play him? I’ve thought long and hard on this and I think Matthew McConaughey would do a fantastic job. He was absolutely brilliant in True Detective and has the accent. He also dives headlong into whatever he is doing. One season should be one book, that way you could get in all the little suspenseful turns and really emphasize them as well as get the… Read more »
Love this book series! A show would be AMAZING!!
I’ve heard about this news a while ago, please let me know when it’s gonna come out. I love the Pendergast series.
Love, love the Pendergast series. When will start???!!!
Yes yes and yes!!! Can’t wait!
I wish spike TV would reserect (sp) the following series, Second Chance, Almost Human. I cannot stand it when a network, just cancels a series, that you are in too. I think they need to look @ ratings numbers again. Pepole now DVR a lot of their TV shows and donot watch them for a week or so. At least if the network cancels a TV series please make one or two extra episodes to wrap it up and let the hon least if the network canceled TV series please make one or two extra episodes to wrap it up… Read more »
I thought Anderson Copper would be a great choice for Agent Pendergast. I now think Paul Bettany would be awesom
Oops Paul Bettany
When is the series premiering???? I love it. Paul Bettemy would be a great choice for Special Agent Pendergast
This is the best news ever–I too have read the whole Lincoln & Child Pendergast book series. I agree that Paul Bettany would be a perfect fit for Penedrgast with Mars Mikkelsen playing Pendergast’s evil brother. Please, please, please cast the characters on point. The books must be read in order to cast accurately. Tom Hiddleston also a good pick for the evil brother. I will definitley subscribe to Spike TV to get this series and more.
A. Pendergast is older then Diogenes. Midds Mikkelsen is too old , though makeup and FX could deage him, but not on TV budget.
I have read all of the Pendergast books and love them. This is great news for all the fans. I am thrilled to hear the news and can’t wait to watch.
Can’t wait for this series to air. I love the Pendergadt novels. So excited.
Have read all the Lincoln and Child books as well as all of their individual books. Glad to see they are having another go with Relic. Movie was great but what? no Pendergast??? Look forward to the series. Don’t know if we get Spike TV.
I read all of Preston and Child’s Pendergast novels. I was hooked with “Relic”! Fabulous plots and characters. Please, cast Paul BETTANY as Pendergast! He is made for the part.
