The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I think tat’s a real shame. My wife and I really like the series.
Absolutely love this show! Will watch on any channel whenever it’s available! Nothing more edgy than the way the human brain works!!
I really love this show and I’m still waiting for it to continue…
Disappointed that perception has been cancelled. Bring it back fed up with violent programmes being shown. Some of us like a great series like this
I was so disappointed to hear Perception had been canceled. Apparently, anything that doesn’t have enough sex or blood doesn’t rate highly. God forbid someone might learn something during their mindless viewing.
I’m sorry to hear it was canceled. My husband and I liked this show. It was interesting to guess what was going to happen. I know I am late in posting this. I had been waiting for previews of it starting up again. Oh well My husband and I have come to the conclusion if we like it will surely be canceled after a season or so..
I think it is one of the best tv series i have seen after all the edgy tv series when it comes to suspense thriller. This tv series puts everybody inti the edge of the seat and the profound delivery of each character. Noting also the benefits it gives to us know more about our own perception. They should be given another season.
Ya know, there have been multiple TV management bizzare-sodes. How about: Firefly, Star Trek, A Gifted Man, and Babylon 4 (supposedly scheduled to run 4 seasons, but prematurely cancelled after #3. The entire (already written phenomenal final season of the legend compressed into 2 or 3 episodes. Then the brain-squeezed management quasi-phenoms decided they had erred. Main characters were gone, the whole plot was gone, and a quite nice-looking female (of questionable morals and unbelievably negatively absent acting ability) substituted for a man with long-established acting credentials (for crying out loud, he was TRON). Surprise, surprise, it didn’t work, it… Read more »
This show is hands down the BEST I’ve ever seen! I usually get easily bored with other shows & movies, but this one always managed to keep me on my toes. The cast is excellent, the plot line is one of the most masterful narratives out there, and the show actually has intellectual substance.
Such a shame TNT passed it up for some cheap thrills, and I genuinely hope the show can find a new, better host to appreciate what they’re offering.
I love this show and keep hoping for a follow up to season 3. Or at least a few one offs to give its audience some closure.
This was an awesome show! It is a shame that such an excellent series is discontinued; please bring it back!
No surprise it’s cancelled. Good stories, good acting, no foul language or bare buns, so of course it didn’t last.
BRING IT BACK PLEASE!!!!
I have thoroughly loved watching this series. I myself suffer from chronic depression and I loved the perspective this show explored!! Eric McCormack did a wonderful job playing ‘Doc’… It’s a DEFINATE SHAME THIS SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELED!! BAD MOVE TNT!!!
Me too…loved the show…just finished watching the last episode…excellent. Bring it back!
