The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Used to count on you to bring us entertaining shows that returned year after year. I’m very very disappointed.
DAMMIT now I have to be pissed at TNT too?? I have resigned myself to constantly being upset at broadcast networks for their idiotic cancellation decisions, but I didn’t expect a cable channel to dump one of their top five performers like this. I have loved Perception from the start, it’s a fascinating look at the schizo mind and how difficult it must be to live with such a condition. McCormack has done a fine job with this portrayal, the writing is smart and gently humorous, the case-of-the-week format works very well, and I am glad to see people with… Read more »
I am really upset that Perception has been cancelled. I feel that the irregular schedule of the show had something to do with it being cancelled. Half the time it was not on, or it was on a different day or time. What’s with that!! if you want the show to suceed in the rating there most be some consistency. I love how Daniel would work through the crime scene using his intelligence even though he suffered with mental problems and he would resolve the mystery. Just love the actors as well Eric McCormick has always been one of our… Read more »
I just can’t believe who is heading these bad decisions. Perception is clearly a different kind of show and what an interesting premise. Is TNT going the way of A&E with their cancellation of one of the best shows on TV, Longmire?
Most every viewer who loves Lonmire, along with myself, have stopped viewing A&E.
Will TNT be next?
We need to write in and hope another network might pick them up, such as AMC or Netflix.
What a shame one of the more intelligent shows on TV is being cancelled. Perception, along with Rizzoli and Isles, are the reason I even watch TNT. I have looked forward to and enjoyed every episode of these shows. Why is it that network heads give up on the intelligent procedurals and keep the trashy reality shows.
Perception was okay meaning it was watchable, entertaining, or whatever description you would use for a program that I watch regularly. The point for me is that the networks (including cable) have made me much less likely to care one way or the other about any regular program because either it jumps around to different time slots or doesn’t get broadcast regularly so you spend time trying to find out when the next program is going to be broadcast so that you sometimes just miss it altogether. But mostly it is because I am tired of getting interested in a… Read more »
WHAT??????? You have to be kidding! You got rid of one of the very few shows that your station offered that anyone with a brain would watch! Some of the …. let’s call it JUNK…. that gets renewed is apalling. I’m going to start writing down all the ads that are on the shows I like… so if they decide to pull out or cancel the show, I’ll be aware and can stop buying their products. PLEASE RECONSIDER and keep this excellent show~
Better yet, I hope another network picks this up.
I am heartbroken!! One of the best shows on tv!
You are idiots and do not know your head from your …….cancelling 5 of our favorite shows this year Like Perception…..people like them and you cancel them where’s the listening to the viewers….take off those stupid reality shows and those mindless comedies ….Perception is a great show!!!
this is terrible, love Perception…..there are really awful shows out there and they keep cancelling the great ones…..i think someone needs to go get their heads checked out…..those stupid reality shows could go down the drain…..we love Perception and are faithful viewers….this totally sucks….so far you have cancelled 5 of our favourite shows and leave junk (reality shows and sick mindless comedies) in their places ….listen to the people we are the ones who watch these shows obviously you don’t!!!!
I couldn’t agree more with Rukia even if you paid me. Does the fate of every decent, intellectually engaging and real adult program, regardless of its ratings have to be loped off because of the financial bottom line? TNT’s decision makers reveal their total lack of discrimination in making these kind of decisions. If I were your boss I’d cancel your jobs for being as indiscriminate as 95% of the rest of the United States populace. You guys are idiots!!! By the way–I’ll avoid watching TNT!
I’m heartbroken and really disappointed. Perception was one of my favorite shows. I loved Franklin and Bash as well. Who are the Idiots that cancel these good shows? They should be fired! TNT are cancelling all the shows I really love. I love Perception… and I’m so sorry to see it end. I will not watch TNT anymore!
I am very upset to hear that “Perception” has been cancelled. This was again another great show that should not have been cancelled. Please reconsider and renew “Perception”.
Perception makes u think… A very well written script… we enjoyed every single episode..please reconsider!!…from INDIA
Why? I am sure it did not have high ratings..simply because one just did not know when it would be on…or , even , where. We love the intelligence of this program and the insight it gives to people with problems with schizophrenia, or similar problems. It is a great disappointment to hear of it’s cancellation. However, it is no surprise at all.
