The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I’m sorry to see it go. As a crime drama with a twisted point of view I’ve enjoyed it since I first found it. Considering the amount of brain dead garbage on the tube, I’d be happy to see it somewhere else.
I love Perception can’t believe I won’t see it anymore…I used to say TNT was my favorite network but they keep canceling great TV programs..I hope someone else picks this Series up
Im from the uk will we be getting series 3, I cant find an answer any where im gutted it seems I love a show and it get cancled, its hard enough to find good tv theses days why cant they give them more of a chance, amazing keeps me so gripped
The writers starting ‘riding the shark’ this season. too bad, I looked forward to this show.
Great pity, excellent series, watched and enjoyed by 3 generations in our family so has wide apppeal. Is this another example of executives in short pants making the wrong decision??
Like previous bloggers I agree Perception is one of the few good adult shows on TV.
Eric M. does a fantastic job. What a horrible mistake canceling this show is just to add more garbage shows that I will never waste my time watching. Really sad commentary on what is considered good TV..:(
I wrote a comment previously but am wondering. Do TPTB get to see our comments? Is there a way to let these networks know that we are tired of intelligent shows being cancelled? Is there a way to make our voices heard and affect change?
I’m afraid the reality is, they flat don’t care. The viewers are not their customers, and are not the people they need to keep happy–the advertisers are. They are looking at us as another product they can sell to advertisers, and if our demographics aren’t what the advertisers are trying to sell to, we–and our favorite programs–get dumped and they try something else they think will sell better. We could try to do what Longmire did–create some buzz on FaceBook and Twitter, get the producers and actors behind it, and get another distributor to pick it up, like Netflix. That… Read more »
Figures…every time there is an intelligent, thoughtful show on it gets cancelled ….seems all the networks want is mindless drivel
I was devastated when the show Perception was cancelled-it was intelligent, well written, well acted with believable likeable and was a show that sent a message about the mentally ill. I think that is pretty edgy. It was also a great detective show. Why is it that shows like this, that have so much going for them get cancelled and the brainless shows that follow a formula get saved. I do not understand
NOw they want to cancel STALKER!!!
They are really being idiots here, soon there will be nothing left to watch………..:(
I love this show. Not only is it entertaining, but it shows that somebody with a mental illness can function in society with the right help. Something very important that people need to realise. It also de-stygmatises mental illness. I don’t want this series to end.
I LOVE THIS SHOW. It’s one of my favorites. Eric McCormack is perfect in his role. The show is so unique in its concept and done so well. The show has everything for complete entertainment.
Why does TNT cancel all the good, smart and adult shows like LEGENDS, LONGMIRE and now PERCEPTION??
If the show goes to another channel, so will I. I pray another channel picks it up.
Just FYI: As far as I know, LEGENDS is in hiatus, not cancelled. LONGMIRE was on A&E, and has been picked up by Netflix. And STALKER is on CBS.
I LOVE this show! I’m so sad that it may be cancelled. )-:
It’s a smart, thoughtful show and and the people do a great job with it.
I was totally disappointed it was being canceled. I Thought the story line was exciting and different. The actors were great and very likable. Please don’t cancel. I Would definitely watch this on another channel. Though I liked the lineup of rizzoli and isles then perception.
Love the show
Perception is one of the few TV shows that actually makes you think. The story lines, writing and acting are superb. It figures TNT is canceling for more “edgy” programming. More of the same old junk we find on every network. Sigh.
PLEASE take this to another network!
I really like Perception. It is an excellent show, very different than most shows in its genre. I think TNT is making a BIG mistake not renewing this show. I wish another network would pick it up.
