The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I love perception one of the best show on tv. I have grown to hate all the edgy blood guts and gore in tv today. I wish it would all go away along with the nut jobs that push this violence and twisted perversion on the viewing public. KEEP PERCEPTION SOMEWHERE
Very well said…. Perception is the Wonderful Exception focusing more on the
Miracle of the human mind and how it works!
Is there anyway that we can stop TNT from cancelling the show? It seems to me that it has a huge following. It is so different from all the other crime series. It’s clever, creative and entertaining.
Perception is one of the best shows on tv. I guess they are canceling it because it is too smart and there are not enough people under 49 watching it. The concept of the show is brilliant and the characters are well drawn out especially Dr. Pierce. Really disappointed with TNT.
I agree with Diane…one of the best currently on TV. The characters are compelling and the stories have enough spontaneity and substance to be interesting, without getting bogged down in something that resembles a soap opera. Very disappointed that it’s being cancelled.
Shows like The Big Bang Theory was a bit different, out of the box and it payed off… and it is one of the highest rated show… Perception too is an amazing wonderful show. With proper publicity this show could have captured many viewers. This show is different, UNIQUE, OUT OF THE BOX. There is so much to know and we know that in a fun interactive way… It’s a shame that it is being cancelled. I hope abc or any other major channels takes it up and carry this intellectually awesome show on…
I think this is a real shame to cancel this program . I was amazed the first time I watched PERCEPTION .I t was a good gift to people who suffers from schizophrenia even Bipolar or other mental problems. At least Dr Pierce gave it his best of how people suffering from mental problem will know they are not alone losing this show is a real pitty you should be ashamed of yourselves I only hope that another network will pick it up
I really enjoy watching Perception and the characters’s that are portrayed in the series. I am very disappointed it has been cancelled. hopefully another network will pick it up.
Yes, I really enjoy this show. Very disappointing that such an intelligent, somewhat instructive series is being cancelled. I,hope they’ll reconsider or another network takes it on. A shame to lose it with all the new interest in understanding mental illnesses.
I love Perception! Do Not cancel.
I enjoy Percept9on and would watch if it found another home as long as I can find it. That’s the problem, many of my favorite shows get no advertising from their home. Like White Collar on USA Network.
I loved perception. I don’t know why networks think we only want to see violence and sex. We also like good character studies and characters we can relate to. BRING PERCEPTION BACK!!
Perception is an excellent show!!! It’s entertaining, educational and doesn’t have to use sex or gutteral content to hold viewer’s interest! The acting is great and it’s one of the very few intelligently written shows available. What a shame there’s talk of cancellation, but with any luck it will be picked up by another network! Your loss TNT!
PERCEPTION Was “PERCEPTIVE”! The INSIGHT Into HOW The MIND Worked Was THOUGHT Provoking!! I Came Away From Every Episode With New, Interesting, Sometimes, Even FASCINATING Knowledge—I DIDN’T Have BEFORE The AIRING!!! Eric McCormack Plays His Character Of Dr. Daniel Pierce With Emotion, Realism, and Brillance!!!!! FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachel Leigh) Was A Really Good COMPLIMENT To Eric/Daniel’s — She SEEMED To GET Him When NO ONE Else COULD!!!!!!! She WAS His VOICE Of REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Greatest REGRET Is When TNT Replaces A SHOW That ISN’T Getting The “RATINGS” With Something A Bit EDGIER…They NEVER Seem To CONSIDER That… Read more »
Love Perception. The show is best when the storyline focuses on McCormack’s character. The drop-off in viewership is likely due to too much story time in season 3 spent on peripheral characters. Daniel Pierce’s boss and assistant are interesting, strong characters. Some of the other characters are weaker and less interesting. Overall, this is a way better show than most on TV now. If the writers stuck to the drama of solving cases with the mind of a schizophrenic, they would probably have a hit. Daniel’s home life and teaching duties round him out well.
I am so disappointed to hear of the cancellation of this programme. Perception is one most loved shows and I thought that it gave beautiful insight into the mind of schizophrenia. I think that it’s disgraceful that they would end the series on a cliffhanger like that. It’s sure to say that I am majorly pissed.
I LOVE this show & am a long time fan of Scott Wolf since “Party of Five” & Eric McCormack too. I really loved the concept of the show & it was finally something different to watch that was really good! I hope it can find a new home. I’m sorry to see this cast go off the air, but with their talents, I’m sure they will pop up soon.
Perception is the only program that actually gives the viewer insight on how the brain works on the inside of our skulls, helps us understand why people make choices towards deviant behaviors. Perception is watched in my home by my teenage grandchildren and myself making great conversations!
