The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
WTF?! Perception is a great show with nothing else like it ANYWHERE! This is just wrong. It should NOT be cancelled!
Don’ cancel. I am so disappointed that Perception is canceled. I love this show I look forward to it every year. TNT you have made a bad call.
Yes it is a mistake canceling this show. I love this show. I am disappointed in TNT poor chose. Sad
One of our favorite shows. I sure hope another network is smart enough to pick it up next season.
This show is great! We look forward to each episode and by we I mean my husband and I in our 60s and our son in the twenties. I feel it would be very appealing to a wider audience perhaps on the major networks. It would be refreshing to see something other than CSI series. We think it is up there with Elementary and Black List. Please save this show.
Totally agree and yes Elementary and Perception are our two top MUST SEE/MUST
NOT MISS shows… We can miss all the others but not these two!
This show NEVER should have been cancelled. I will not be watching TNT anymore. To replace a brilliant thought provoking concept such as perception had, just to sell out like all other stations is despicable!. That isn’t really looking after your dedicated viewer’s best interest.
Never fails! All the really good shows get cancelled! I find this show fascinating and intriguing! I wish for once the networks would listen to viewers instead of numbers!
I love the show and everyone in it. It should be kept going whether on TNT or another station. It would be a shame to lose another good show!
I love the show and would love to see another network pick it up. I would really love to see it get picked up by one of the big networks. There are so many cable shows like this that are better than so many of the shows on NBC, Fox and ABC. I would love to see it move to a big network and have full seasons instead of the short ones.
It seems every brilliant series I watch is being cancelled. What is wrong with them ? A gifted man. Almost human and now perception. Someone do something because it seems to me they r replaced by far inferior shows.
I love this show, please do not cancel it!!
I love Perception and yes would watch it on whatever channel it is on
Perception is GREAT! I am upset it is cancelled and hope it gets picked up by someone else. And YES, I will watch it no matter who picks it up.
I echo the feelings of others on this post. Perception is a unique crime styled drama, whose ability to reach the normal crime audience is easy to see, the better part of the show’a appeal is to the more cerebral side. People need shows that make them think, and this show does that. If TNT isn’t smart enough to keep it on, then I hope another network will be smart enough to pick it up.
I love perception! It is a great show! Please don’t cancel my favorite show
