The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I am tired of paying for the privelege of having somebody else decide what I like and don’t like, what I can watch and not watch. Perception causes you to think and actually feel for the characters and the story – this is something that network executives are not yet capable of……maybe they should watch and learn.
I love this show. I was amazed and grateful that TNT decided to air this series. Yes it has similar characteristics and style to other popular shows that I watch or have watched, like Bones, Castle, The Mentalist and Monk. However, to discuss and explain the way the BRAIN works to a certain degree, to show a character struggling on a continuous basis to deal with mental illness, and yet using their special gifts and talents to impact the world around them in a powerful and positive way, to me, that is one of the distinctive elements making this series… Read more »
Totally agree. Wonder if any of our comments in here has any input/impact to canceling the show.
Amen!
Like the ” better things in life” this is a much better show than some of those dumb and worthless reality shows…. Who makes these decisions anyway….
Please find a home for this well written, and well acted series.
l love the show the acting , its edgy it makes you think,
l am always waiting for it to come
very sorry to see it end
Please do not cancel perception…
I just want to say that this is something not uncommon in television we all should be used to. Great shows die off early, especially well written ones with amazing casts and good character development. Just file this along with Sports Night, Freaks and Geeks, Wonderland, NUMB3RS, Pushing Daisies(killed by the strike mostly) and the rest of the list of shows cut off around 40-50 episodes that could have gone for years. I only hope that Netflix, Amazon or Hulu pick this show (and Franklin & Bash) up for their line-up. Eric McCormack has created one of the best characters… Read more »
Apparently there are a lot? more people who crave for blood and guts, explicit sex and violence and anything that panders to people who love crap… basically any show that you can’t or shouldn’t watch with your family. It’s sad to think that a show that doesn’t include that will be highly subject to the axe.
Sad.
Well said. Truly hope that the series continues somewhere!
please dont cancel this series… its intelligent and witty. its one of those shows that makes you think not as a cop or hot shot detective but like a scientist or researcher…
and you renew Legends…??? i mean seriously..???
I am sad they are cancelling. It is my favorite show. I hope they rethink this decision and keep it alive. It is one of the few non-violent shows left. Violence is overrated. I took great delight in viewing a show that did not make me sick to the stomach with violent deaths, rivers of blood, and evil so great as most of the shows now. Please rethink.
Please dont cancel perception tv series. Its one of our favourite. I have recommended this to my friends.
What a shame to take Perception off. My whole family (3 generations) loves the show.
It is one of the few intelligent programs left on ANY network. Eric McCormack is terrific in his performance. Please find a home for it somewhere!
Oh no… it’s one of my favorites. Great characters and always interesting story lines. Hopefully someone will figure this out and give them a home. We don’t always want edgy, we do however expect entertainment. Perception fills the need. So listen up Suits… hear the audience, not your wallets!
Please don’t cancel Perception or Franklin & Bash. You don’t like having consistent viewers that are middle age. We are the ones watching TV and watching and buying from the ads you show because we have the disposable income to spend. My boys are 21 & 23…they DO NOT watch TV and they don’t have a lot of. Only to spend. They have school, work, video games. Their friends don’t watch TV, the parents and grandparents do. So stop trying to get these kids to watch.
WOW!! Really?? Cancelling Perception and keeping Legends?? We love Perception! We started watching Legends and found it to be annoying and disturbing, not edgy. Perception is ORIGINAL, interesting AND unpredictable. More and more of the good shows are being taken off. You wonder why you’re loosing people to online shows and the internet? It’s not because you do or don’t have edgy shows, it’s because your out of touch with what people like. This needs to be reconsidered!
Sooooo….disappointed. My family and extended family have all loved this show since the beginning. Many great discussions followed so many episodes. Eric McCormack and all the actors gave wonderful performances. Witty, intelligent, and refreshing. Would be happy to watch the show on another network if they can find it a home.
That’s right put some other crap on that no one will watch. It’s sad to see a great show go of.
