The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I still can’t believe I haven’t heard anything about them bring back the show. Most young people are on their cell phones or playing games. I have a grandson who is bipolar and the problems he has are so real. I agree with those who said it gave insight into brain issue problems.
One more reason not to watch TNT.
I love this show. I’m VERY disappointed and frustrated it’s been cancelled. Not everyone wants edgier and this one is intriguing and has good twists and turns. Grr! Wish I ran the TV companies. They keep canceling my favorites. Maybe if I didn’t watch everything on my DVR it would make a difference and I would matter.
Very upset that Perception was canceled. Love this show!
Perception is a great show I’m very disappointed to hear it has been canceled!! I hope to see it on a different channel it is a very good show
I love perception. Is another channel or netflix picking it up.
Disappointed that a good show has been cancelled yet again. Eric and Rachel were great together. Maybe you all will reconsider.
PLEASE DONT CANCEL PERCEPTION!
My husband and i (age 68) have watched it faithfully and love the show!
I have to say that TNT is becoming a real disappointment. First with the cancellation of Dallas and now Perception. These decisions make me wonder ‘Who is in charge over there?” I am moving back to the USA network.
We were faithful fans of Perception one of the smartest shows on TV, I am very disappointed that it was cancelled. They always cancel the good ones.
Do disappointing that something like this would be taken off the air.
Anna and Phil Schilb, We are very disappointed that TNT cancelled Perception. Oneof the bestprograms on TV . It was well written and well played. They aways cancel the good ones.
Yes. It was better than most shows so not sure if I’ll watch any more RNT shows. We get use to regular channels (ABC, NBC and CBS) taking off good shows but when you are 10 on the list you should keep shows that real people watch. Listen up channels 11-20 New audience will follow prevention!!!
I completely agree about the positive representation of mental health that was portrayed on Perception by the expert acting of Eric McCormack, as well as the supporting cast. I am dismayed that positive and intelligent portrayals of people are not valued as much as shows where bad examples of relationship skills, immoral behavior and bad manners are shoved down viewers’ throats. I am glad I’m not the only one who understands that more importance needs to be put on what the older demographic wants. People 18-49 are busy building their lives and careers, socializing, and raising children. If they have… Read more »
I cannot believe anyone thought it was a good idea to take Perception off the air. The characters were great, and the acting was much better than the show that is replacing it that I will never watch.
