The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I am so…..angry with TNT for canceling Perception!!!! They keep cancelling all the good shows and adding or keeping stupid shows!! I TRULY LOVE THE SHOW PERCEPTION!!!!! I hope they put it on another network so I can watch it!!!!
I don’t know why they would cancel this show. My husband and I enjoyed watching each week. Didn’t realize it was cancelled til “Murder in the First” came on after “Rizzoli and Isles”.
Good actors and writers. Really sorry it was cancelled.
Loved this show! Very well written; perfect casting. It’s unbelievable that really good shows like Perception & Forever are cancelled while ridiculous shows like Mistresses & many so-called sit coms remain. TV is once again becoming a vast waste land.
I’m so bummed! l love perception. Yes I would watch on a different network in a heartbeat!
More edgy shows? Like the duggars?
Perception is a great show. Loved the cast.
I don’t know who the TV gods think they are attracting but it’s not the general population.
Love the show, don’t know why they would cancel it. I’d watch it if it were to air on a different station.
Perception was excellent .. the classroom scenes always put me on my seat edge and sometimes my friends and I had nice chatty sessions about the learning material. That show has the potential to got further than Law and Order..
I am very sorry to see this show cancelled. It had a different approach on crime and why the person did what they did. I hope another channel picks it up soon.
I am so sorry to hear that Perception was cancelled. It was smart & thought provoking. As others have mentioned, it served to inform a public that is usually informed about mental illness when some poor disturbed person gets violent. I loved listening to Daniel’s lectures. It made me want to be in his class. What a great teacher!
And Daniel’s hallucinations were fabulous. They were always a window into his unconscious. How could TNT cancel such a superb show.
I love Perception and am very upset by its cancellation. I hope it finds a home on another channel.
Please bring back perception. It is a great show that TNT had on a weird schedule. Never knew when it was on. Hard to grow audience. Then not a lot of repeats. The things that made Burn Notice on USA. This show has great chemistry and leggs for future episodes. Give it a chance.
I didn’t realize the show had been cancelled and now I wish I had some closure.
My son and I watched this show religously! it is great entertainment as well as educational of how people with mental illness can still be a part of society and shouldn’t just be put away somewhere. I think it is important for more shows and movies to emulate this concept. this show had great charaters and great story lines so please bring it back-anywhere!!!!!!!!
Cannot believe they cancelled this show. Too many really interesting, well written shows are cancelled. Why not cancel some of those idiotic so called comedies? I guess some people cannot handle thought provoking shows.
Perception was such a good show. It should not have been cancelled. It has good writers and the plot of every episode is well written and acted. The replacement “proof” does not come to par with perception. Would like to see it back.
